help with choosing cameras

Hi--I'm taking a great vacation soon and my old camera is shot.
I like a digital and this was about 8 pixels(old huh). I want something compact. Do the point and shoot have zoom and width included? I'm not crazy about manual settings and fumbling around with zoom lens, and flash. So, I would like all of that
built in and I know there are more pixels, so that's ok, but I need advice as I also have a dear friend dying of colon cancer and I would like to have pictures of him now, and so do our friends....I hope that doesn't sound morbid, but we all love him
dearly and can't believe Mr. Network is going away...crying sigh help

Hi Laura,

I recently got myself a Canon IXUS 100IS ( 12 Mega pixel )
It is very compact and robust ( 85 x 55 x 18 mm ) and does everything, video, sound the lot. Fits into a pocket very easily so you don't look like a tourist walking about with something big and steelable around your neck ! Hope this helps, check it out on the web, better deals online I think.

Sorry to here about your friend :(
It don't sound morbid to me. I have video I keep of my parents last Christmas and also I still watch my wedding video on occassion. Christmas was one of those occassions. I am getting better I can watch them now without crying. If you want pictures of your friend go for it. And am so sorry that you are suffering this comfort
Nippon or Canon. You shouldn't need to spend more than 250.00 for a very good one. some good advice: Get new. a used camera is like a used car. for sale for a reason. Good Luck.
I purchased from HSN a Kodak 14 pixel .... they were running a special with a $30 rebate from Kodak .... about $160 after rebate .... I have no complaints about it so far.
I have a SAMSUNG 5860 8.1 pixels it take great pics. you just point and shoot,it has zoom, and face detection video and flash
check it out at Best-Buy web site, sorry about your friend
Thank you--all of you. Now I have some ideas as well as the adds
for cameras on the side. I work on a sun workstation every day, well now we're pc, but I've not had a computer all these years, and it never ceases to amaze me the more I learn how to communicate and the responses I get back..thank you!
Olympus would bring out the best colors. Even really old models do great job
