Still jet-lagged :-(
Been back in Omaha for 11 days now but I am still suffering from jet-lag. Thankfully, I don’t need to get back to work and my Spring classes at the Community College only start on the second week of March.I left for KL airport on the early morning of Feb 9th, around 4am. Flight to Narita airport ( first leg of my journey ) was delayed for almost an hour and a half and because of that, I had to run to catch my connecting flight to Houston! Had a 5-hr layover in Houston and it was almost 10pm when
I got into Omaha and 11pm when I finally got home.
Had one of the best Mexican food the following night.
I know Chinese New Year 2023 was officially over on Feb 5th but I had promised my Malaysian friends here in Omaha that I’ll have small get-together once I’m back from my Malaysian trip.
As promised, I made the ‘Prosperity Toss’ for my friends. Not too shabby for first attempt.
Was invited to a CNY party while I was in my hometown. A ‘Prosperity Toss’ with a twist, not your usual Yu-sheng.
1.Bunga kantan or known as torch ginger flower
2.Green mango
3.Pink guava
4.Cucumber
5.Unripened papaya
6.Pineapple
Middle: Mint leaves
My daughter and I had one too over at my mom’s place on Chinese New Year’s reunion dinner.
Another one on the second day of CNY. Just like the one at my mom’s, this was store-bought too. This was at my ex-husband’s aunt’s house. She’s a Malaysian-Indian but thought it was fun to celebrate CNY with me since she hadn’t seen me ever since I left for the States.
Apart from the ‘Prosperity Toss’, I made nasi lemak ( our Malaysian national dish ) too for my friends. I brought back half a kilo ( I bought 2 kilos but had to leave the rest behind coz my 2 big luggages was filled to the brim!! ) of dried anchovies and deep-fried them and my friends went crazy! Lol Art hated the smell of the anchovies that permeated through the whole house ( basement too! ) when I deep-fried them and I told my friends they better appreciate my efforts coz them darn anchovies nearly cost me my marriage!
My friend posted our get-together on her FB page. ‘Kecoh’ means noisy, fuss, excitement or all that into one! Lol It’s true, when we Malaysian women get together, there’d be non-stop talking, eating and laughter, Art always describes us as cackling hens!
Well, I’m looking forward to my next adventure, an European adventure perhaps?
Spring ready, both Art and MiMi!!
P.S: Art says, “Silly goose, Spring still a long way off!”
