I am an athiest
I am an extremely strong athiest. Some people view atheist to be someone who has a dark, cold, bleek, empty outlook on life but that is not at all the way I look at it. I think all religion is rediculus and is based upon tenates that have barely any, and in most cases no factual ground what so ever. Most religious books where written hundreds or thousands of years ago by people who were attempting to answer questions that they didnt have answers to, before science, which is a fact based way of looking at things, was really ever invented. People back them did not have any kind of education by comparison to a modern sense of education. Most religions suppress science because they say that science, factual information, is "harmful to god" or because they feel it threatens their religious beliefs. The bible was written by people who did not have any form of education that could be by any means comparable to modern education and states things such as that the earth is 5000 years old, which was based off of zero factual grounding. I think the reason religion is has remained so promenent in society is due to many factors. I think one is because when religion came about it caused the supression of science which made it very difficult for society to advance their knowledge and understanding of the physical universe around them in a proggressive, fact based manner to be able to move past religion. I think another reason religion has remained so promenent in society for so long is because people believe that the religious beliefs that they have comfort them and I think the reason people are drawn to religion is because the idea of not having an answer to something is so disstressful for them that they feel that they have to find some answer that they can understand. And I think people are so afraid, and uncomforted by the idea of not knowing that they would rather desperatly hold on to their beliefs then to open themselves up to other ideas, and to question their beliefs because if they were to open themselves up to other ideas or ask questions it would require them to have douts about their beleifs which would means they would have to be uncertain to the answers that religion attempts to answer, which would be so disstressful for them that they instead, in the perceptual dillusion believe that the beleifs that they have comfort them and refute any other possiblilities. The reason for that is because in there perspective if they were to open themselves up to other ideas they dont know what they would find and if it would be more or less comforting to them then what they currently beleive, which creates a peceptual fear that makes them cling desperatly to their current beleifs. Some people think atheism is an extremely uncomforting, dark, cold, empty, bleek outlook on life but that is the exact opposite of the way I look at it. I dont say I know what the answer is, but I can say the chance that any religion actually got it right is rediculusly astronomical. But I find a large amount of comfort in the fact that we are currently, continuously pursuing a real, fact based answer. I dont know what the answer is but I can say whatever it is its probably more amazing then anything we can imagine.

Since I believe this life is all there is, I aim to make
the most of it and enjoy it, while I can.
The reason religion still exists, is that it is taught to children at a very young age by their parents, or by clery motivated by profit & control. This molds the child to think this way. Some people later think independently and learn of the concrete evidence for evolution, and other causes of things that were formerly attributed to god(s) and then question whether an unseen entity actually exists. Others never do, or at least won't admit that they do. Regardless, religion will likely be slowly reduced with each passing generation as more & more of the causes of life are truly understood.
Most recently, leading astrophysicist Stephen Hawking announced in his most recent book, that the need of a god for creation would be "redundant" (see my previous blog on this).
Nonetheless, I agree with Tammy (above) that we should coexist and be tolerant of each other's beliefs. To each their own.
