Elevator Eticate

When you are on an elevator, and another person gets on, why do they feel they have to say hello to you? Now if they say hello when they get on the elevator, you know they're gonna say goodbye when they get off at their floor. So you have to respond to them once again. That's 2 words you've wasted on someone who you're never going to see again in your life. So do me a favour.
