I was reading an article in the Los Angeles Times (CA) that tomatoes are being picked green and sprayed with chemicals to make them ripen in transit to the stores. Even then they are partially green and you have to keep them in a ripening mode on your counter at home.

That said, bananas are also coming into the stores completely green and you take them home and ripen them. Probably also sprayed with chemicals and there, probably, is part of the taste your experiencing.

Gone are the days when you could drive to a farmer for fresh veggies and fruit. Yeah, we have open markets as a weekly thing in our town main street but I often wonder how "farm fresh" these things are.
ed1941: thank u for the info and comments, if you are the only one alive and things are too slow on cs, i may as well go buy some friut and most likely bananas too

Well one of the advantages of living here in Puerto Rico is all the tropical fruit they grow here . There is a guy who sets a small stand at the service road to the Econo supermarket that I buy all my fruit from . He also knows me and gives me a good price on his produce . I just love it here . . . applause
fs: i already booked d flight ... what a salesman, thanks for comments. i confess that i do eat most of the fruit from a can, i know it is strange
Whitehorse tip hat

professor In Ecuador there are more than 200 varieties of bananas in my country only 50, it is possible that some of the European banana broker, has changed its supplier, the variety of banana plant and soil type, change the flavor and sweetness of bananas.

I don't think the fruit or veggies you buy in the store ever tastes as good as fresh. We have farmers markets here, where all the produce is locally grown. Most people also put out big gardens, and put up what they grow. In the winter, the canned stuff is not as good as fresh, but much better than the store bought stuff.
Whitehorse, canned fruits are not good for you. They contain toxins from the metal and hormone disrupters-and their is about zero nutritional value in canned foods.wow
Calli..NO!! And the so Called Fresh Stuff isn't either!!!...I think I will go into the Forest and eat Berries..!!??rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing wow

@ Millay be careful who you put that info out to. Farmers markets are fast becoming illegal in the US. We are fast going to weird tasting bananas here too...the milk is already tainted but at least its sweeter just not as nutritious
