Unbelievable!
Not sure how messed up the housing system is anywhere else, but where I'm at I am fed up and very dissappointed! I've gone to several governmental resources and I've heard everything from "you make too much money to get any kind of assistance" to "we're sorry, there's no availability on our waiting list" ....and everything in between. Homeless and living in a hotel....but damnit, I'm working and doing whatever I can and because I'm not living off of the welfare system and sitting on my arse, doing nothing, I'm not allowed the help that's needed. Meanwhile there are so many people out there, not working, not trying to work and taking advantage of everything the state has to offer while they sit at their home, that is paid for by the state, and play video games....waiting for their next state check to come in. Do I have a bit of an attitude right now? I sure as hell do...I am angry and feel like I've been let down. While I am homeless....work day to day in this flippin heatwave, someone else is living in their own home or apartment off of my tax dollars....isn't it ironic?
Just a bit of venting...sorry folks. I am done now

I admire you.You told us how your system work and you expressed yourself in very clear way,not every American dare to discus this wrong and unjust system.I know the rich is paying less taxes and the hard working people like you pay much more tax than them.To tell you the truth,if the system is suppressing you,go claim the benefit from your "welfare system" and work secretly like most people do.By doing this you will have more right to ask for more help,so play the game they have created.
I really feel sad to hear that,i know you are a single parent, doing every things alone, every one see you must respect you for that.Don't forget sometimes,in order to get your right you need to play games with them.I am against any kind of corruption but in your case,i will support you.And do not give up hope keep struggling, you will get over it,just be patience and do smart things.
Now let's look at what you have in your favor. You have a job, you have a salary, you have a bank account, you have a roof over your head, and you have internet access. Stop expecting the government to help you out because they've made it clear they won't. You're going to have to rely on yourself and non-government means to help you.
First of all, you can continue seeing if there are less expensive hotels you could move to, and whether the difference in their rates would make it worth your while to move to one, or not.
Second, you can continue looking online for apartments to rent. Chances are there are available apartments in your area. The question is how much is the rent, and are they tolerable. You might not find your ideal apartment, you might well have to compromise on some aspects you'd prefer to have, but you still might be able to find a place that is tolerable, and costs less than staying at a hotel.
Third, you can look online for houses at reduced prices. There are real estate sites with foreclosures listed, and when you compare the cost of a monthly mortgage to paying rent, there are some opportunities there to own your own place with more space than an apartment, at half the cost. It's worth looking into these sites.
First of all, I am at the cheapest hotel I could possibly find and it drains my weekly paycheck of all I've earned with the exception of what's set aside for food, therefore, leaving no money left to save to put a down payment for an apartment. Just the amount to put down for an apartment around here is usually one months security and first and last month....average rent being 800-900 a month so down payment would be close to 3000 just to move in. ....and yes, I have been looking online for apartments to rent from the moment I get home from work to the moment I go to bed..checking different rental websites and classifieds for something.. and yes, I have been looking into foreclosed homes, yet again....a large down payment is required and I'm able to afford a rent or a mortgage but it's the down payment that kills me when I can't save up because all I earn goes to the hotel and food. All I was asking from the government was a housing voucher to cover the downpayment...had no intentions on living off of the state, just some initial help to get started. There is nothing wrong with needing assistance from the state to help you get started, it's called helping someone help themselves....where the problem lies is with those you take advantage. There is a difference.
