Project Troy - Mission to Mars Reaction Engines SK

Concept from Reaction Engines - SKYLON, SABRE ENGINE
Project Troy - Mission to Mars
Here's video of concept

I've posted this due to the interest in the announcement of
Reaction engines UK successful tests on Sabre Engine posted in forum
SABRE is the first engine to achieve this goal by operating in two rocket modes: initially in air-breathing mode and subsequently in conventional rocket mode:

Air breathing mode - the rocket engine sucks in atmospheric air as a source of oxygen (as in a typical jet engine) to burn with its liquid hydrogen fuel in the rocket combustion chamber
Conventional rocket mode - the engine is above the atmosphere and transitions to using conventional on-board liquid oxygen

Dear Metaloona , Well I'm one of thise nerdy scientific types that do think this is interesting . I will also remind all that when Columbus first came here it took many weeks ( mounths actually ) to do crossings of the Atlantic . It was a slow prosses that was at the mercy of the elements . When we discovered steam power we where then able to pick the best routes and times to do the crossing . The early steam engines where actuall so inificient that sail power was needed to suplement the crossings . As technology improved and they became more eficient, it was possable to dispence with the sail altogether .

Crossings took a dramatic increase in not only frequency but in time saved as well . This is of course still longer than airplanes would do it in . We now have gone from days to hours in our ability to do this and in some rare and experimental pieces it can be done in miniutes .

The Mars landings will undoubtetly benifit from technology as yet unseen to make this almost routien . It looks like an exciting future ahead . . . .cheers
I hope they have a duty free shop laugh
