Homeless

Now, as it is getting colder in Europe, some parts already have plenty of snow, did you ever think about the homeless people? I’ve tried to imagine I had to survive the street life, but just can’t. No way to it. Being outside, having to sleep on a bench, whilst the temperature goes down to -10° and even more. How can they survive? Plenty of them die every year, being murdered or freeze to death. Aren’t we all lucky to have a nice warm and comfortable home?

well over here we do have some where for the fathers who have been kicked out by their wifes who wanted more money than their husbands could earn , by going on a DPB benifit , and theres plenty of cheap boarding houses for the men with low incomes thanks to the system here ....banana
Yes, I consider myself very fortunate for it could easily be myself in such a situation. I can only thank God. I have seen at least one person some years ago who was found dead on a park bench by the police. Two others who died while in the jail over night. Both men and women and young people in line-ups for food at meal-kitchens. It seems every city has their share of the homeless. You would think that it was the 30's. No need for it all when there is so much wealth by so few.
And one of the worst things is, that the supermarkets throw tonnes of food away every day instead of giving them out free by the end of the day.
thats right , they do the same here , but most of the old food goes to farms for stock feed , the bread people I work for have whats called a pig man that colects up to 250 loaves of out of date bread every day , but it all goes to a deer farm , wave
thumbs up it is best to be thankful for the little comforts we have.

I spent a few months in a mission when I was nineteen. In a major town during the holidays. I don't think I'll ever have the feeling again from that time. Oh, it was almost a magical feeling, during the Thanksgiving week and the Christmas week. Donations from all over would flood the mission, all kinds of foods, clothing, money. Seems like we were center stage. Gave me faith in humanity. wine Here in the US, privately funded missions will help the homeless greatly, but only to nondrinkers and to those who don't use drugs.
It`s terrible to know how many homeless ppl are now on thestreets in Europa. We forgot what mercy is. Rich ppl consume a lot of goods and don`t care what happen with all other humanity. Very often we forgot about all kids who died from hunger every day and we must remember them all every one time, when we sit on the table. It is so easy to help with some small sum not only for Christmass but every one day .......
And let be thankfull for all what we have in our life!
yes im thankful at times like thesesad flower
I always think any one of us could be a short chain of disasters away from it & find it a terrifying prospect.
Connect, on the supermarkets & thrown away food, here at the end of the the day out of date produce is put into rubbish bins behind the shops, an orderly queue has already formed, by the time the bin men arrive there's not a lot for them to do.sad flower
one bad decision is all it takes. and that could include someone else's Bad decision.
No one chooses to be homeless. Its a Failing of the system crying
Most homelessness in the Western world is connected to poor mental health . What can we do to help ..... ? How can I help should be the question here......saskia
When I was a young bloke in Sydney I had a Very good friend Who was Homeless by Circumstancial Choice!! He lived in the Back of an Old Abandoned Ice Cream Truck, way down the back of the Factory. And I often visited him with 2 bottles of Beer and me and other lads would gather round his fire and tell jokes and stories untill late into the night..AHHH! The Good Old Days!!!
Thank You!!! thumbs up thumbs up peace
The obvious answer to the question "What can I do to help" is surely to offer a homeless person shelter in your homedunno
Meta, thumbs up
Take @ Meta, I agree we can't always help those who have made this a lifestyle choice, but I do think we could all do more to help those that find themselves in this position against their will, as Non said it may not even have been their error that put them there in the first place, jmo.
Some of them refuse help, that's true.
You did good Meta, The temperature here goes way below 0 at this time of year and alcohol is a problem, when someone falls down drunk in the street, the public will inform the police immediately, they come and quite gently put the drunk in the paddy wagon and take him to a special unit for the night. The alternative is to find him literally frozen solid in the morning. Drunkenness is discouraged in Finland, but they won't let anyone knowingly freeze to death.

I have experienced being out in these conditions, when over a misunderstanding my g/f kicked me out at midnight in -18 degs. I survived by resting 20 mins then walking briskly 20 mins. I also had cold weather gear on.

But I was sober and could still have frozen to death if comatose.
