About Religion

I just saw a post in a blog which made me remember a thing from the past ...

A long time ago when My son was about one and a half or two years old ...

My Mother was bathing my son and as he loves to splash and play in the bathtub ,my mother had some real troubles to get hem out of the water so I wrapped him in a big bathing towel and carried him to the bed to be dressed . He kept jumping on the bed,but naked all jolly and happy and at one moment my mother said, oh be still for God`s sake ... So he looked at me and asked "Who is God"
I had no clue how to explain it to a child whiteout being subjective ... I mean I had no intention to give him my version of who or what , God is ...

How would you explain it to a child...

god is the shepard we are his sheep
Bo i got a paradox in my mind.in one hand i think i have an idea about God,but in another hand i believe that understanding God is far beyond our imagination.
I ll try give some explanation. Can u watch youtube in a calculator?in this case our brain is a calculator, and God is youtube.
well i m rubbish explaining something to the kidssigh laugh
pedro
thats a pretty good explanation for grownups ,I doupt that kids would understand ...
A child does not expect a long answer to anything. The simpler the better. Like... God loves all the people on the earth and takes care of us. That should do it. If you want to be able to talk to a child, you have to get down to his/her level with simplicity. handshake
rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing boban my grandchildred who are teenagers now bought a fridge magnet for me as prest it reads.

applause applause applause
Leo, Im not much better in giving reliable answers to children but I had to come up with something and yet not to confuse him too much
Boban just put the fear of God in him so he won`t ask any more questions

back in my days when I went to school ( socialistic regime ) they presented us just the theory of evolution as a fact in biology class ,they never told us that there is much more ...
I told my children the truth, that god only exists in peoples imagination, that it was a lie told years ago that got out of hand.
I d say,God is the head of the angels that will protect u all ur life.

ps.I dont believe in angels ,myselfcheers
Red, thats a pretty impressive gift ...laugh
india
My son is soon to be 22, guess Im a bit late for that...laugh

In my personal opinion, he deserved a fair answer ,even at that age
you maen to say he still does not know who is God?
Glatlol
Okay, you gave your children your vision of the truth , I didn`t want to do that, I wanted him to make up his own mind ,
yes I know it was far too early for that, but I had no intentions to start with something I consider as brainwash from the start
@ Leo. You wouldn't be lying to them, but that answer would only lead to another question... What are angels?? And if you try to answer that, your are in BIG difficulty.conversing
India, Im afaraid none of us knows who or what God is, we all may have some ideas about it, created by some scripts and movies...
Boban, yes I wanted to start with the truth from the start to, thats why I told them the truth.
GOD=GO + ODD
its goes odd for me that how human believe on presesnse of God even he has not seen him/her ...i always tried to believe but lastly i lost fully my belief on God.frustrated very mad
Bogan, I didn't realize your "child" was 22 yrs of age. But you would still have to start from the beginning... if you know it your self?? You can't teach your son something you do not know yourself...so where do you go from there... guess the answer is pretty obvious. Good studying and seeking the Truth wave thumbs up thumbs up
boban when my kids were young they knew I did not beleive in any kind of God so they thought I would give them a note to excuse religious knowledge which was still a lesson those days. I told them they could not say they did not beleive because they hadn,t learnt what it was all about to beleive or not. they are grown men now, christened their own kids got married in churches, so I have no regrets i made them learn. Whatever helps you get through the night I say.teddybear
hey boban you have gone real serious not seen you like this
RAHUL

okay, I guess at some point in life we have to start questioning our beliefs ,searching for the truth
Gullie
I have chosen another approach at that moment ...
I set him on the bed and started to tell him about different believes and disbelieves and that all of them have their reasons and arguments for their believe aka opinions
now i dont need to be questioning, i got the answer...now i only believe on nature and natural science....just all creations r the gift of nature and nothing..
Boban... if you want him to be able to choose, then you have to expose him to those who believe in God.. the Truth. And you will also benefit from being with him for no one ever knows too much about God. This would be a son and father journey. Don't be afraid to take the steps that can bring you knowledge and wisdom of your Creator and His love for you.
Red, thats actually a very good approach

learn ,read ,make up your own mind ,but be ready to have a explanation for the choices you have made
you can't see your brain...does it exist????dunno confused confused
india
yeah, I hate it when Im serious laugh
RAHUL
If the answers you have makes you happy and fulfilled ,its mission accomplished
cheers
boban-thumbs up thumbs up
boban god does not want you to be serious
boban god does not want you to be serious
i certainly would'nt tell children God did'nt exist regardless of any personal beliefs.
they can make up their own minds later.
but in times of death children will take comfort in the fact that God and a heaven exists, especially maybe if parent or sibling has died.

my opinion... always encourage children to believe in God
but the people who believe on God they have a positive point..when they r in problem atlest they make satisfy themselve that an unseen power(God) will help them, they dont get alone themselve ever....but the people like me feel very alone..

but the truth is truth dear!
Gullie
I do believe in God ,
I have chosen to be baptized at the age of 21 ,still I do have a pretty open mind about organized religion, things we are not aware yet ,the fact that we are using some 10% of our brain, that there are more than 13 dimensions out there ,that science does not have all the answers ,that the holy scripts have been rewritten and changed and the real ones are hidden ...that there are over two billion stars in our galaxy ,starts like our sun surrounded with a lot more planets ...that the universe is a unthinkable big place
Calliopesgirl
you can crack open anyone's skull and see the brain ...laugh
india
I don`t know , My guess on this would be,

God made me this way

laugh
A few people had said that children should be encouraged to make up their own minds. Should children be allowed make up their own minds about everything with no guidance from parents. Surely as parents it is part of our job to help and guide our children know right from wrong, that truth is good and lies are bad? If any of my children believed the lie that is religion and the story of god then I would have failed as a parent. Its like saying let them decide whether or not stealing or murder is wrong confused
