Why most medical research cannot be trusted

It's old news that drug companies essentially "bribe" doctors into prescribing their drugs by lavishing them with gifts - branded pens and coffee mugs, free lunches, golf outings, "educational" trips to the Caribbean ... all have been regarded as fair game in the past, although now such free goodies are heavily discouraged.

In 2003, drug companies spent $448 million on advertising in medical journals. The ads promote not only drugs but also subsidized seminars and "training opportunities" that usually take place in tropical locations.

Of course, oftentimes the ads are only agreed upon if there will also be a positive mention of the product in an editorial piece; sometimes the drug maker will even have their own writers generate the content! It has been calculated that the return on investment on medical journal ads is between $2.22 and $6.86 for every dollar spent, with larger and older brands at the higher end.

That's why it probably comes as no surprise that many so-called "experts" are very much on the drug industry's payroll -- but they masquerade as independent medical experts or even state officials during their "day jobs."

It is, by the way, 100% legal for drug companies to pay medical professionals to promote their products. The drug industry also often pays the expert medical reviewers who evaluate medications or medical devices for the journals. The featured article continues:...

I only watched a video on this subject yesterday in relation to cancer in America.
here's the link Boban.
People will do anything for money. Humans don't exactly have a very good track record of giving a darn about their fellow human. Big pharma is a multi billion dollar industry. To anyone who actually believes they wont do anything to keep that money coming in,you are fooling yourself.
Athena The argument for competition arises in that video I think,
I watched two or three but give it a look.
We'll make a sceptic of you yet. laugh
The pharma industry is a big business and big money is mainly put into research for the "big illnesses" like cancer, diabetes etc. Lots of people sick, lots of medication sold.
On the other hand, if we didn't have drug companies, a lot of us wouldn't be alive today... dunno
Yes, cancer causes panic.
And here such medical ethics killed my husband

Fotinia, my sympathies hug
The pharmaceutical industry should be taken out of the hands of the private sector and controlled exclusively by government, making medicines available and affordable for all.

Four basic needs should be met by government for everyone - food, health, housing and education.
KNnnisssimo !!!
Thank you.

yeah, n support the millions they spend in research, testing n certification through our taxes. great idea... but such a moved to bring an entire economy to its knees. Free market and capitalism is indeed the only way forward; good or bad. dunno

Flashart I tend to agree.

Sorry Athena
History is written by the global elite, In such a way to make you think you owe them something. They owe You. For the dead of you ancestors, and the sacrifices hard working Joe soaps make every day. They live opulent lifestyles at the cost of taxpayers, They reward bad banking and hide money in under handed business deals. The sell country's and constitutions from under your nose and all the time tell you its the burden of social issues the continue to ignore that are keeping you down. Sure thats part of the problem.

Wow! That's really interesting, this is the first time I know about that
There are only about 8,000 compounds that are used in pharmacology in various combinations to treat different diseases. These are in fact combined and recombined as their patent status changes. Either way you twist it, it's all about the money and there is a lot of money to be made in "not" curing a disease, but treating it instead.
