The cup

One night I had a dream
I dreamt I was walking along
a river with trees and flowers
throughout.
Off into the distance were mountains
and a sky of blue as clouds rolled by
The sn burned bright and overall it
was a wondrful sight
Off into the distance just a short bit away
there was an old man sitting along the river
who seemed to have much on his mind
as he stared into the river seeming to
be pondering over much.
Yet there was something different about him
He had a cup of gold like a chalice
in his hand.
He saw me walking and called me to sit and
keep him company.
I considered why not? he seemed like a friendly
and learned old man.
As I pondered what he was all about and what he had to say
I felt kind of lost in a peculiar way
While staring out upon the river
he asked toto take the cup and look inside
I saw it had water about halfway
He then told me this is my life
as I saw it.
He then took another cup he had hidden in
his pocket.
He then got up to walk over the river
and gently placed it in the water
he then filled it up the previous cup with
the new water until it overflowed.
I asked why he was doing that he then explained
" This is how you see yourself, Consider the first cup
it has all the doubts fears and illusions you have about yourself
Yet you insist wanting more.
As you can see by adding more it flooded over
If the universe wanted you to have more it would have to make room by emptying what is already there.
Yet consider what is already there Hence first you must empty the old water and allow new water to fill your cup.
Seeing the cup as half empty seeing the cup of everything you already have if you do not like what you have to drink perhaps it's time to empty that which is in it and start with fresh water.
Ponder this in your travels.
