Pyramid Sale

or multi-level marketing, is increasingly booming industry although considered as illegal in China. It is a very controversial topic. Many people are addicted to it, wishing to become millionaire even billionaire in a short time, while others hate it and feel disgusted with the people dealing with it. How much do you know about pyramid sale and I would like to know if it is common in your country.

wave Carrie,
Here we call them 'pyramid schemes'
Many going around and I believe that if you can join the scheme at a early stage you can make good money. Every pyramid works itself dry. I would rather invest in a high risk equity. JMO.wine
the only Thing about Pyrimids i know is in Egypt and I like egyptian history and always intend to visit One day
hi, Lukeon. Thanks, you know about it well. I spent a good sum of money buying the products of a certain Chinese brand featuring Chinese herbs. I totally accept the products but am being forced to do the marketing. I know i am not that kind of person. I enjoy having my own leisure time and donot want them to catch me into large or small meetings in the name of earning money!
@ Carrie - We had them here in Australia in the 1960's and 70's but the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission soon put a stop to them.... grin hug wine
hi Ali. It seems you do not know about pyramid marketing. It is not that pyramid in Egypt. It is a kind of sale or marketing method called pyramid. In this system, somebody sells you the products(normally very expensive)and introduces you to become a salesclerk, then you do the same thing and it forms a multi-level pattern, on which people get bonus at different levels.
@ Carrie - A true pyramid scheme that I mentioned does not use any products, it's done with money eg:

I get 3 people to join at $1,000 each, then I pay $500 from each to the person above me and keep the same from each for my self. I can get more to join and get my share from each person that I have joined and got others to join as well... etc

We have a company called Amway that has been accused of being a pyramid scheme but that is not correct because they have products as well as bonus schemes.... grin hug wine
@ Hans,, They found R2 billion worth of drugs in a house here. No arrests. So here anything goes... God help us. moping
@ LukeOn - blues Now that your invetory is gone what are you going to do for cash, Mate.... laugh rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing ... cool cheers
hi hans. A few years ago, Chinese government also put an stop to pyramid sale. It worked for a period of time but many brands, foreigh and local are doing it again. They call it direct sale in order not to be caught by law.
Got two factories in reserve...cool grin
Hans, we in China have two kinds of pyramid sale. One is the same as you said, just money and no products. The other is with products but very expensive. Amway was the biggest company of pyramid sale in China. Almost everyone knows it but now its business is shrinking. Other brands are catching up with it.
yes Carrie, market segment is like pyramid...
the quality and price will determine the quantity which is building the pyramid itself.
low quality and cheap price will be in bottom part of pyramid and in top of course the best quality with expensive price.

I like to buy something in between... but not from MLM.. dunno
Similar to 'Tupperware' parties here... where the ladies (and men) sell and promote the packages/items..
I'm just a single irresponsible man splashed with lots of lazy!!

No buying, selling, having a party to induce buying and joining for me. I buy my things at the 99 cents store because everything costs 99.9 cents and I am perfectly happy!
Pyramid selling is illegal here and in many other countries and rightly so. It is not to be confused with multi-level marketing MLM which is a direct selling method for some goods and services. Any worthwhile MLM companies are members of voluntary or regulatory bodies such as the Direct Selling Association (DSA) in the UK and abide by acceptable codes of practice.
No. You can start it.tongue
