I COULD live without it but... would rather not lol. It plays a pretty big role for me. I use it for almost everything.

I put off getting one for years, then strictly for work reasons went ahead and bought one 10 years ago. Then EVERYBODY figured I should be available 24/7 and some even got pissed off when I didn't answer the damn thing.
I've changed my number a few times since then and only gave it to family and a few friends, as well as a few long time clients.
Finally had some peace for the last two years.

At one time I felt like I needed mine constantly.
Eight months ago, it was the first thing to go when times got hard and I haven't had one since.
I do miss the convenience to check my email, text someone or just being able to call for directions and such.
I do need one for work since I do patrol work for a Security Company.
Just not sure how much I want it back as an impact in my life.

For a young man you´ve got some old fashioned notions kid!My mobile phone is necessary for work, and if my family need to contact me if I´m not at home. I live in Spain, my family is in the UK, so they need to be able to contact me if the need arises.My students need to contact me if they have to cancel a class or are going to arrive late.
I dislike them though, and I refuse to get a contract phone, mine is pay as you go. More economical for me as I rarely use it to make calls, really only for receiving calls. My home phone is my lifeline.

I have one because of my job. but I hate it..most of the time on the weekends i dont even look at it...If i didnt need it for my job.. i wouldnt have one...

Unfortunately no. With my boys, if I'm not with them for what ever reason, school, doctor's appointment, etc. who ever they are with has to be able to get a hold of me in case of a meltdown. And now that I'm an EMT, we have to be able to land line the authorities in certain situations where they don't want the general public picking up info on their scanners from our radio transmits.

I have mine mainly for emergencies and it is turned off most of the time. I have unlimited long distance on my home phone so if I need to make a call I use it.
