pretzelman: No...I get aggressive and angry because you have a job because of people like me!! And you don't give a damn for people who provide YOU with a job!!
Did YOU put on a uniform and go to a war zone to fight for a country in a war you didn't believe in? Just to be treated like crap? No!
So get off your high horse and come down here to where the veterans are! I am sure you have no problem getting treatment from the VA...you are a part of the problem!
This is one pissed off vet. And you sit there behind a computer screen telling me I am a liar when I relate what was said to me.
BTW..I spoke with four supervisors and even the administrations office and was told the same thing.
first of all, i don't work for the VA. Part time, I teach nursing students and sometimes we go to the VA, sometimes we go to the Cleveland Cinic, and other medical facilities. So, PLEASE don't tell me about me either.
My husband did fight in the war you are talking about, so i am very very familiar with the consequences of it. Also, I treat MY patients very well, whether they are VA patients, private pay patients, or homeless people. Yes, I work different jobs and I work with the richest of the rich and the poor of the poorest.
I don't believe I called you a liar. I was just informing you of what I KNOW. Whether or not you care to listen is up to you.
virgiomonkey: Thank you....sorry if I sound really sound stupid here....is that full 'health insurance' cover...does that pay for everything relating to all Hospital costs etc...? one I can think off is Dental treatment?
J.D
I am fortunate to have dental insurance. Many people don't have it. Dentistry is pretty expensive here.
Da10th: Only reason the VA takes so long is because they aren't funded the way they should be and lack manpower.
The military really doesn't like vets in general. They are a constant expense that takes away from their budget.
If it was up to them, they'd rather buy a new rifle, rather than give a vet the help he needs.
Sad, but, fact.
I have yet to see a government agency that did not blame incompetance on lack of funding. Ever hear of doing the job you were hired to do the best you could do it regardless of the circumstances?

of course her answer was over simplistic!! It is much more involved...with what one health care plan provides and what it doesn't when compared to other health care plans. Not all deductibles are the same. not all the premiums are the same. Some plans cover this while others cover that. Dental is an all together separate issue...not part of a medical plan.
Some plans must approve of a particular doctor...and can deny payment if the bureaucrat fells you don't need the a particular procedure...even if the doctor says you do.
One plan refused to pay for an ambulance because it wasn't pre-approved!! How do you get pre approved for an emergency??
But in this person's fantasy world...all is honky dory

There is a lot of beaurocracy not only at the VA but at all hospital settings. The staff and nurses have to jump through so many hoops (paperwork, form, ect) just to do their job. It is sad. And it is pretty much all government or JCAHCO mandated.

Thanks...Correct just like New Zealand....very,very expensive as well, and that is not covered by our National Health care services....except for extreme emergencies...like Car Accidents etc
We could have efficient government. Mussolini made the trains run exactly on time, by shooting the drivers that didn't perform. Is that what you're suggesting?
(don't get me wrong, I agree with you that the government is enormously over-priced. But the percentage of tax money that goes to any one public sector is an infinitesimal amount compared to what we spend on defense. Bombs and bullets are way more important than the people who are traumatized by them for the sake of their country.)

I don't give a rats patooty what your husband did...what did YOU do??
Again..living off the attributes of someone elses bravery! Now you reap the benefits!!
And then tell me I don't know what I was told today!!
You guys keep your jobs by denying benefits for the veterans

Take a look at the defense budget, and then see what percentage goes to the VA versus how much goes towards weaponry, soldiers (serving), recruitment. I bet VA gets less than any one of those programs.
Hell they even hire companies to make video games to recruit kids, and having someone make a video game (realistic) isn't cheap.
Least they could do is make the VA some sort of priority as far as funding.

Get used to it, national health care will be the same way, no matter how much you pump to them, it is never enough. Congress has every ability to adequately fund the VA and they choose not to.

Whoa....sorry people...and again I do apologized here,on not coming real fast here on grasping the situation here....but it sounds your system is really 'complicated'...no offense intended here to anyone....however I did see a documentary on how the Iraq war vets were treated back in America and dare I say this I was appalled, what I saw on the treatment they received...again if I am totally wrong here...I do apologize...and again No offense intended at anyone...
I agree and I understand your frustrations Ship...I'm so sorry...I went thru something similar with my uncle years ago. He was a bachelor and had no children - I was his only neice and the one who intervened on his behalf with the VA -- I am so proud of the men and women who have served this country and they do not deserve such disgraceful medical treatment. I have never been so exasperated as when I was dealing with those VA people. I hope and pray you will find the help you need to resolve this and get the help you need.
