I am a teacher.

Like any civil service career, there is always room for criticism.

What gets me is those who do not do the job, blame us for not getting it right.

If you feel you could do better, then join the civil service.

Galactic_bodhi: It's a hard and thankless job. I'm not knocking the police who do their best to be professional and do the job. I'm knocking the police who think that wearing a badge makes them better, more moral, and less prone to temptation.

Wearing blue doesn't make you Superman. It just makes you a man (or woman) with a tough job.
My sentiments exactly touche & TYhandshake

Hey doc. Have you ever read any Joseph Wambaugh? Just curious. He's the major reason I don't condemn the men in blue. Yes, I've never done the job, but that doesn't make me unsympathetic or unwilling to learn. I'd actually rather enjoy having some police friends in personal life, just so I could pick their brain for story ideas.

My forte is not doing this tough job of law enforcement. My forte is educating people to the themes of the human condition as a poet. I think a lot of police get jaded because for the most part, all they ever see is the dark side of human nature.

I would just like to remind them, and everyone, that that's not all there is to people.

People have an enormous capacity for nobility and compassion as well. I think an even harder job than wearing blue is wearing the uniform of a fire-fighter or EMT, because that exposes these people to an enormous amount of just plain random suffering, and I think these people are the tops for every day expanding their capacity for compassion in the face of the enormous and indifferent forces of Nature itself.

Whatever deity that may or may not be true, bless all of you in your daily journey through this vale of ignorance and pain.

HardStep: Finaly---> lack in criminal justice, so it's would wide!
I can't honestly speak for other countries but I'm sure it's a problem worldwide, seems criminals have more rights and I know about that innocent till proven guilty. You wouldn't believe the bad guys get off besides in USA lack of facility to incarcerate thus the plea bargain process, speedy trial, cops didn't properly mirandize when in fact they did(not in all cases) always about their rights and the poor victims hung to dry.

Having a older brother who's a retired police officer I would have to say they do an excellent job.grin

There are many good police officers who do their jobs well and rarely if ever recieve recognition for what they do and how they put their own lives on the line for us. Some people automatically hate police officers and it's usually the ones who have had several run ins with the law.

I think police officers aren't paid the wages they should be paid because of the dangers they're exposed to in their line of work. Some people tend to take the police officers for garnted and expect them to know everything,be everywhere,to be perfect, exemplay examples and never ever be tempted or angry to any situation.

My favorite was always The New Centurions. It was basically a fictional autobiography of his time wearing the badge.thumbs up

In response to: The New Centurions is likely the most autobiographical of Wambaugh's novels and is a straight-forward narration of events with little use of flashback. Each chapter is written third-person from the point of view of one of the three protagonists, who realistically have no contact with each other once they graduate from the academy but whose paths are at once both parallel and converging. Like Wambaugh, his protagonists move from a few years of uniformed patrol in minority districts to plain clothes assignments in Vice and Juvenile work, experiences which so impacted Wambaugh that they appear repeatedly in all his fiction. - wiki

They the Dogs that keep the Wolves from the Sheep. They have to deal with everything, no one else wants to. When it is a good shift you can go home like any job. When it is a bad shift you go home and it stays with you even in your dreams. When it is real bad you may not go home.
