A little of both here.. but I do not subscribe to the lemming mindset that plagues society in general. There's enough sheeple around for eternity don't you think?

OH I Do think so and ur quite right there on the sheepish one's. Seem's an expected behaviour. What you think?
Bentlee: Do you follow society, or follow your inner self? And what do you think is the Lemming EFFECT?
Well, I know exactly what the lemming effect implies....."like lemmings to the sea"...one jumps in, the others all follow.
One MUST take society's path, at least partly. Laws are a part of one's society, for example. But, of course, if we ignore our own drives, ambitions, goals, interests, passions, and values, then whose life are we living? We must have a healthy mix of both. We must be true to ourselves and we must do so within the general framework of society. Well...I said "we must" and perhaps that's not accurately stated. But I believe that life would be far more difficult if we don't find that healthy balance. Sometimes, society changes as a result of individuals finding the strength to follow their inner selves, thumbing society in the nose. Gays, for example, have come out of the closet in great numbers and society has become more tolerant as a result. Just my 2 cents.
jlb684 cool thought's. If i can delve further it would be a soothe'r society if we did partake in our own vs an expected society expectation of us. To be unique is a statement!

Ahhhh, but truly unique individuals don't exist. On the other hand, each of us is automatically unique. Which is it?

to be unique does exist, i see it every day. Within me. I choose not to follow, yet to carve my path, with a mute tone to society and expectation of their's!
Actually , it's hard not to get sucked into society driven things. When one get's past 40, one begins to sometimes feel the need to become politically involved locally and possibly more environmentally minded as an activist . I never thought I'de go there when I was younger , but when you see how your taxes are spent - you sometimes get pissed off and get involved ...........

I follow me, unless other people are doing something fun, then I might join in. But you know, lemmings don't actually follow eachother into divebombing into the sea, or off a cliff. So it's more like a sheep effect. Sheep will follow the leader. And people are like sheep. Social creatures that in groups tend to follow the one in front. Then again.. you don't see sheep wearing their ball caps sideways.
