(Yes, the other thread got me thinking...........again, look out!)

he or she had murdered? Had tried to kill you?

There is a US appellate court case right now of a 22 year old son who had hired a friend to kill his parents and younger brother. He was not abused, came from an upper middle class family, and was completely loved. He had dropped out of college and didn't want to face his parents who thought he had graduated.

His mother and brother died. The father survived the attack and states he has forgiven his son.

Would you?

Forgiveness and love are not the same thing. My wife loved her siblings but could not forgive them for things they had done. She was quite clear on that point.

Of course I would love my child if they has done the things you listed. Forgiveness would depend on the reasons for their actions. An organic brain problem is a completely different situation than wanting to collect on the parent’s life insurance.

You are completely right that forgiveness and love are two different issues.

The son was not found to have any major psychological problems, since his attorneys tried the 'ol standby defense plea of insanity at trial.

It would be difficult, too though, to still love someone, even if it was a child, if they tried to have you murdered.
"Hi son, I know you wanted me dead but let's go the Packer game on Sunday" would really not be in the cards for me......

you may not like my anwser, but it my child ever tried to kill me I would try to defend myself without killing them, but if they ever tried it a second time... One of us will not walk away from that situation... that I can promise you.....

principles are principles, I live by the same rules so If i try to kill my kid, I hope that they kill me... right is right and wrong is wrong... I know killing is wrong and I don't promote it, but when it comes to self defense... do what you have to do....cheers

I agree with your answer. Self defense is logical. From what I read that is the exact situation of what happened to Marvin Gaye and his father.

Unless you have been there, you really do not know what you would, feel, think or do. I hope to God known of you or anyone has to face that decision. Sadly reality dictates it does and will happen. Just never want to know anyone else who has been through that situation again.sad flower

Can't say unless I experienced this with all the elements involved.

That's my best answer...

I have always told my sons that I would love them forever, no matter what. And I mean it. Unconditionally. There is NOTHING they could do that would make me stop loving them. For me it's not possible. It doesn't mean that I will agree with everything they do, or defend every action they take.. but none of it could make my love for them stop or even diminish.

Great answer.

I agree - it's simply impossible to know.

I agree that it is impossible to know. Look at how many people state they no longer love a loved one if they cheated. Or if they lied.

I am a very forgiving person, I believe in forgiveness, I believe that the human mind is a fragile one, however strong we portray ourselves.

I believe in that I may forgive them, like I would forgive a person who tried to hurt my child.

Forgive, forget, love, always emeshed together.

I find it very difficult to answer without being in that situation but here goes anyway.I couldn't ever imagine myself being in that situation where my own children would wish to harm me.I would hope I'd press charges.I'd ask myself many many questions of why my children wished to do me bodily harm.
