true, many believe marriage comes from love and God not man-made pieces of paper BUT in our world these pieces of paper give us rights. Can you imagine not being able to help a sick loved one make important medical and financial choices just because you didn't have that peice of paper? What about not being able to adopt, share taxes, inherit property? Legal marriage should be a right for all.

dirko63: I dont think men are afraid of marriage its a piece of paper after all
If two people are compatible why get married, just live together enjoy life and dont worry about the marriage certificate
I dont think it is JUST a piece of paper, personally. The piece of paper just comes along WITH getting married.
The act of loving someone, and being committed enough to someone to pubically stand up and declare your desire to make someone your wife/husband is very special. Just because you just live together doesnt, of course, mean that you are NOT committed; but marriage is the ultimate step, in my opinion.
ContraryCol: I am a mixed bag of old fashioned values and moder attitudes. Marriage is something i do still believe in. But maturity and experienc makes most people shy away from the notion of marrying after a few heavy falls. imo
......Nicely said.....and also sick and tired of been label as the so called 'Abuser' ,and she the 'Victim' by our Justice and Family court system here in New Zealand and then taken to to the financial Cleaners because its there 'Right'...never,ever will I let a Woman do that to me again.....

I happen to be one of those guys out there who's not afraid of marriage. Despite the fact that I've been married & have gone through one divorce already, I'm still a firm believer in the institution called marriage. Nothing better than a good & blissful matrimony, especially when it's made in heaven.

Haha... All I am trying to tell you -
I am as afraid of marriage as any man is... hence not sure what these generalizations are all about.
Happy Friday!!!!
Its not the marriage
its
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone. It's not warm when she's away. Ain't no sunshine when she's gone And she's always gone too long anytime she goes away.

Easy- divorce court and financial loss after the woman files for no fault divorce, the court extorts the poor sap's life savings and saddles the man with lifetime of child support payments.
In response to: Why are most of men afraid of marriage while most of women wish it?
If this is true, apparently I'm not like most women.
I don't see a need to get married, unless that's something he wants. I'm not going to have any children and as far as I'm concerned the same conviction can be there between a man and woman - without the religious ceremony.
I don't think that most women want to get married. Where do you have that fact from? The men I've met in a past few years wanted to settle down more than women of my age.
