I agree. Used to be that most of the people in a community kept an eye on everything. If kids were acting up, there was always someone around to either put a stop to it, or to at least inform your parents. Much harder to get into trouble back then.

But if the community is "responsible' (lack of a better word) then when that child gets him/herself in trouble, who should ultimately take the blame?...their parents or the community?

Unfortunately, too many people don't even have the time or desire to look after their own children, let alone someone else's.

The child should have been taught right from wrong. If more children were made to take responsibility and the punishment for their wrongs, I do believe that things would be much better in society today.

It don't matter who raises you or how good your raised - we all have the power of choice - sometimes circumstances in life present themselves to where you have no choice but to make the wrong one in order to live. That does not make someojne bad, nor does it reflect on who raised you - some things in life just can't be avoided.sigh

I agree.

Let me share something rather sentimental. Most of my cs friends know that I lost 3 children. Many times when I see others casting away children like pieces of trash, it just infuriates me.

So many people having babies and not taking the responsibility for raising them. People need to grow up and realize that when a child comes, priorities change. Other things matter.

The life of that child and ensuring that it receives a good home, proper education, food, clothing and emotional well being is first.

Where is the justice?

Regardless of whether or not I have biological children living, I feel that I have been a positive role model in the lives of many other children. That is what matters most.

When ones words are not better than silence, one should keep silent - therefore I am shutting up - everyday I find someone in this world who adds a new dimension to the word pansy - usually those people are the mr. peabodys of this world who have live a sheltered life under the blessings of God.

I remember those days too...where other peoples parents held as much authority over you as your own did...

So i hear this statement alot..."it takes a community to raise a child"...and wonder what happened to the parents here?...why are we always trying to palm off our responsibilites on others?...especially in view of how times have changed and you MAY NOT discipline in any form or fashion another's child...

Those are all good questions...I am raising my son alone. I do have a girlfriend that helps watch him while I am at work.

when it comes to displine i beleive each parent should take that into their own hands unless the parent is incapable(sp) of doing so not cause they dont want to

as far as raising a child each parent should again be responisible now if the parent needs help then by all means yes the community should help

wikked - you know I am an ex convict. I had no choice but to kill those people too. I did my crime and did my time as a man. Does that mean my parents or my community did not raise me right? No it means I had a life and death choice to make and I made it - I did my time - I asked for no mercy - I did what I had to do at the time. It by no means reflects on how I was raised, My parents (God rest their souls) raised me to be a man and right or wrong to live my life as a man. It has been 7 years now that I have been FREE - just shows ya I chose to have my body locked up for 15 years, but they never locked up the little boy my mom and dad raised.

I hope i am not offending anyone in this thread, my reason for this question is because i am reading a book based on the murder and trial of a 14yr girl (Reena Virk) in British Columbia, Canada...it was 8 teenagers all of the same age group that was tried and convicted of this murder...and the question came up about the community itself being responsible...as not 1 but 8 pre-teens and teens were able to hatch this brutal beating and carry it out...with no one, including their parents...aware of what their children had been capable of...

I think the more eyes and ears out the better..I'm responsible for my own kid but having been one myself I know parents can't see everything..I am ultimately responsible formy childs actions ..it is my duty to teach him right from wrong thru example..
I agree with Bob though that no matter what your background the choice is ultimately yours what path you choose to follow...sometimes though you make bad choices that is how you learn...
I do think however once they start going to school then thats when the lines of communication need to remain open..

I am not offended, only reminded of how precious some things are that I will never have.

We all need that reminder.
