i am no scientist, nor am i a psychologist. But after carefully and sadly watching the devastating effects of some human emotions like anger, greed, and hatred on our planet and civilization, i would certainly like to see those aspects of human emotions getting neutralized or becoming irrelevant. But how? Some people would argue, we could certainly do that with technology.

By now, we have already witnessed the amazing things/discoveries that science and technology have managed/will manage to accomplish to benefit human race, ranging from manufacturing a small niddle to changing the trajectory of an asteroid descending upon earth. And one of the greatest inventions of science so far has been the introduction of microchip/microprocessor...that few millimeters long, square- shaped semiconductor, used to calculate, process and control the billions of data, information and calculations within a fraction of a second. Can/should we really put this amazing product of science called microchip to use to control some of those very negative human emotions in an effort to bring back our civilization from the brink of destruction?cool

Emotions are caused by thoughts, and the only thing wrong with the world's population today is that no one is teaching them how to think.

The media is trying to teach them what to think, that that encourages all the negative stuff you are seeing.

But is it really possible for others and media to control our thoughts? aren't we all after all the masters of our own thoughts and actions?dunno

This is something that really terrifies me, because we now know that the brain works on electrical impulses it does not stretch the imagination by much to link that to mind control via micro/nano technology.

If/when that happens it will be the end of the human race in my opinion

you very well may be right but if we don't do something drastic to control our unchecked, negative human emotions, the human race will be extinctdunno

Thinking and being responsible for ones own thoughts and actions takes self love & self respect.

In America, peeps would rather have it all handed to them on a silver platter and have government do their thinking for them.professor

Sadly, our taking responsibility for our own actions has, to the greater extent, been lost, not just in America but most of Europe as well.
This greed and materialist view we all have has lead to the downfall of civilised countries to my mind, better that we go back to accepting responsibility and take control of our own lives, rather than be dictated to by the minority who supposedly govern us for our own good.

We absolutely are mnowsa thumbs up

Besides emotions are too complex of a neurological processes - narrowing it down to media is preposterous.

as for the microchip you dream of doh wow -

I hope it will never happen.

That's exactly when you will stop being a master of your own thoughts and actions.

oh... here i am not really advocating for suppressing the positive human emotions like love, compassion and etc. I am only trying to explore the possibilities of enslaving those negative human emotions.cheers

I understood it from your OP.

It doesn't matter, mnowsa, which emotions would be attempted to be be artificially suppressed -

altering the very nature of a human being like that is playing god.

And besides that, tell me:

* who would decide on this microchip's functionality?

* what groups of population are more likely to be effected/forced into getting this microchip?

* in whose hands the control of microchipped ones whould be?

*shudder* uh oh

I don't really think that we will want to suppress our emotions artificially. In my opinion, perhaps we could redirect those negative emotions through a different channel and thus yielding some very minimal negative effects on ourselves and our environment.dunno

It is up to us humans to control the mind and not to have the mind control us.....

They are just emotions nothing more....control them use them for the good of all...ie Love, caring, understanding, comassion, passion etc......

well, my humble opinion would be that it is actually the mind(or something else/some mysterious mechanism inside us) that is controlling us human one way or the other. Human itself is no significan entity without the mind. And if we do agree with human controlling our minds, then we(human) are certainly not doing a very good job of it, because so much killing, hatred and animosities are crippling our world community.cool

The thing about emotions is that we need to experience the extemes of them all in order to live a fully life. If we do not experience deep sadness then we will not experience what real happyness is.
If we do not experience deep anger we will not be able to experience what real elation is.
From experiencing extreme emotions we mature and find some sort of even keel, and even though we may still experience occassional extremes of emotions, most adults spend most of there time in the middle.
For me,if you take away the ability to experience extremes of emotions then it is bound to effect ones quality of life.
However,in cases of mental health, when drugs are introduced to combat depression or anger or hyperactivity etc, then too often the drugs will prevent the person from feeling much at all in the way of emotions.
But that is only my theory!
Am I right?
dunno

RillyNiceGuy: There is more money in treating than curing!

That is a huge issue mr gooddude.
Why would drug companies work on a cure that would take a one of payment to cure a problem when they can produce something that needs dependance,as well as other drugs to counteract that drugs side effects?
Can anyone recall a drug company that went out of business due to the effectiveness of there products?
For that matter, any drug company that has gone out of business period!!
dunno

One more thing that I ask and I am quite happy to be given examples off...
How many Queens,Kings, presidents and world leaders dye young unless theres something out of the blue occure?
Ok,some conditions may not be tracable with regular check ups.
So a heart value rupture can occure without warning for instance.
But,I have a belief that medical science that is not available for all is available for the benifit of a few key players in life.
The are rumours that many British Royality were both kept going due to unknown technowlogy as well as they being bumped off at the most convinient time for the Royal Diaries.

Well, in my humble opinion, i don't really think that one needs to experience the extremes to live a fully happy or a full life. If you read the human history(and if you believe in religion), you will see that almost all those religious figureheads or leaders have almost always maintained a level-head..they have always adopted a "MODERATE" approach in their personal lives to bring about the intended positive changes in the societies. I think that's why there is a proverb that says nothing of EXTREME is good..be it happiness or sadness.Just my humble opinion.
