The media is a powerful tool. Depending on how it is used it can paint a picture that is either bad or good about a place. For many the vision when it comes to Africa is either that of starving children with distended abdomens and flies hovering or despotic rulers who seek after their own wealth and power while ignoring the needs of their people or a place of vast wealth that has been often exploited for the benefit of outsiders. But what is the true face of Africa? I think she has many faces. I think some tend to forget that Africa is made up of many different people in terms of race, religion, culture. Its a place of vast beauty but many have suffered their fair share of pain and horror there as well. I think its a more complex place than what might be shown by the media. Your thoughts please.wine

Hey Thumpwave Interesting points. But which Africans are you referring to? Remember its not just made up of one type of people or one place. And I would rather doubt everyone there is running around begging for aid.wine

My view is pretty much as bad as you described it Taino, along with the aids crisis there, mainly because of the media coverage.

However I know many who have been to many different African countries, and in the main they have nothing but praise for such a wonderful continent.

Unfortunately, it seems to me to be a land that has always been exploited by outsiders and now many African political leaders.

I would like to visit one day, but will surely pick the countries from which I have heard the good reports.

One of my international relations teacher back when I was a student told us that "Africa was hopeless and pointless to talk about" wow uh oh And that is all he said about Africa the entire semester....

Well, Africa is a large continent containing a vast amount of countries, cultures, and languages. I agree with you that the situation in Africa is very complex. You can find a lot of good and a lot of bad in Africa. Unfortunately, their is a lot of corruption and the stability of many countries there is very fragile. But, I think the international community needs to pay more attention to the problems in Africa, because a lot of help is needed throughout the region.

Well there is that nasty business of Greed, Colonization, Ignorance, Lack of education, Lack of understanding of people's history, Lack of understanding of human nature.....I could go on, and this is both from within and from the outside world. Without all the pieces to the puzzle how can one judge.

The whole continent. If everyone would quit trying to kill each other, or control each other, and help instead, they wouldnt have a problem. That goes for the rest of the world too.bouquet

Well, dont go to Zimbabwe, its definitely a hole! There are more 52 countries there who actually dont really walk hand in hand on a regular basis in opposition ti what Westerns want to portrait.

I got my youtube back. I was watching Whitney telling oprah that she got fed up of the princess that the Media builted up around her. She got scared, she needed to discover her personal adventures, limitations.

The other day, I went to the library, to try to check a bit of Gadafis history, etc. I found only one book full of terrorism. It was written in early 80, I believe and I just couldnt stand it because from the beginning until the end, he was a monster! I only relaxed when I got to read some stuff on the internet. To be continued...

Israel is just an adorable country...isnt it? Everybody pitties Palestinians but cant resist Israels wonderful...

Im still wondering how Africans are depicted as not being able to enjoy themselves in their territory...which in fact, happens to be what they do the most and not war.

I want you to close your eyes, listen to this lovely song and relax.
PS> 1_ its a very soft song

2_ Im having problems with my punctuation...
If anybody knows how to get it back to normal, please, help me! F...what?

Any alternative people in America or they all look like Paris Hilton, Heidi...?
Can we identify ourselves with the Big Brother people?
Of course not, America is the greatest potence ever!
Africa does have well behaved nations, its just not fun to point them out. Sensation is the key to successwink

pubwrite08: Now I got something to say abut the struggle, for blacks in America that is very real... We get judged big time on the behavior of a select few folks. So do not talk about a walk, or anything about African Americans because you do not know for real.

And as far as sending aid to Africa. What country ran over here and undid the madness that "AFRICAN AMERICANS" were going through. You seem to know so much about what black people go through. I would like to hear more.JMHO

I feel a deep deep sympathy for the people of Africa. I know there are many beautiful places, and respectable people; and there are violent thugs and scenes of starvation. Africa is the birthplace of humankind and of civilization. I remember as an adolescent in the 60's hearing about Patrice Lumumba and his untimely torture and assassination. It is as diverse as Egypt and the Bushmen of the Kalahari; African elephants and unbelievable mountains and waterfalls, Albert Schweitzer, and so much more.

I think you are right!
