Keeneland: You keep on changing your point????? The only reason the US economy is still functioning is because China has loaned the US trillions of Dollars. The US will be in debt to China for the next 50 years at least! You go on about the US like it shows the world how an economy should be run. The US is on its knees. Its economy is in bits and without China the US would be bankrupt??
Is that capitalism working?????????

How is poor people bailing out multi million euro companies like banks capitalism? Can you explain that?

I can assure you that the US is NOT on its knees! Yes, there has been recession here, as there has been in pretty much all other countries recently. But, in general, the economy is getting back on its feet, thank you.

Of course, there are areas that are struggling more than others, but that is natural. I have moved to a city that has a smaller population than Cork, and is generally a rural area, but since moving here a few months ago, I got more job offers than I did in the previous year, sat in Ireland.

Im DEFINATELY no economist, Keene, and I dont pretend to be so, please dont jump on me!; I am simply trying to communicate my experiences whilst actually living here.

As regards the healthcare system here, yep - it sucks, unless you are rich, or get a job with a good insurance package. But the majority of US Citizens dont like it either, and are struggling to get changes made. handshake

The majority of US citisans are against changing the health care system according to polls. They dont see why they should have to pay for the healthcare of others.
And financially the US is on its knees. They have huge debt to China. The dollar is in the toilet. I never said the Irish economy was in a better state? confused
I was pointing out to blipper that the US was not the richest country in the world and that without the help of China it would have been bankrupt.
I am sure there are people who have arrived in Ireland recently and been offered some jobs and thought whats all this recession about? You can't take an individual case to prove a point on a countries economy. Unemployment in the US is about 9.5% at the moment. That is a country that had pretty much full employment 2 years ago.

Many republicans are against changing it, yes. Democrats, not so much! Rich republicans are involved here, and of course, money talks, and makes the most noise.

No, you never said the Irish economy was in a better state. Your posts have simply highlighted the US economy, true. However, my point was that you said that the US economy was "on its knees". Thats simply not true, and my example of job opportunities compared to where I lived in Ireland was proving the point that to talk about an entire country's economy in one sentence as you did, is not quite a fair demonstration of how things truely are.

As much as you "cant take an individual case to prove a point", you also cant make sweeping generalisations about a whole country. It varies from area to area, State to State.

Hi, blipper, and thanks!wave Nice to meet you!

As I said, Im certainly no economist - doing that for a living would send me to sleep! All I can do is put forward my own point of view, from someone who is living it, has also experienced the Irish economy and can truthfully say I know a little of what Im talking about.

dunno

Exactly....9.5% unemployment from full employment....and the US economy is on its knees...again you have just arrived and by your own admission are in a small town....how do you know how the rest of the country is doing.
I am stating facts. Most of ALL Americans dont want change to the health laws. And the US nearly went bankruot last year. Their unemployement has shot up and property prices have dived.
FACTS!

Again, we must agree to disagree.

I have not "just arrived"; I spent a large amount of time in the States, prior to actually moving here when I married an American, who, incidently, is very intelligent, very well up on his country's politics and economic strategies, whether or not he agrees with them, and from him I have learnt alot about the ACTUAL state of affairs here, as opposed to what is written.

Im not disputing, and never have done in any of my posts that the US has been through a painful recession. They have - as have pretty much every country in the world, to some degree.

My point, once again, is that you cannot, you just cannot, ever know the real story of what is going on in a country until you have lived there, however well read one may be.handshake

You are missing the point...the arguement is not weather the US economy is doing better than the Irish economy?confused

It's about Blipper putting the US economy on a peddle stool and talking about it earlier like it was a shining light.

No, YOU are missing the point!laugh I am fully aware that you are not, and never have been comparing the US and Irish economies! All my posts regarding my job offer experiences here were clearly meant to dispute YOUR own statement that the US is on its knees. if you make statements like that, you must be prepared to expect someone to dispute it if its not true!
End of!...
