Hi, whatever is going to happen in the budget, we'll have to wait and see.

As for the rent allowance thing, I moved out of home at 22 1/2, and even though I was on a CE scheme at the time, I had to wait til I was 23 before they'd give me rent allowance. It's prob to discourage people ending up claiming so many benefits at a young age, but it's not nice for those on the receiving end of it.

Oh, to cheer us all up a bit, the world's smallest snowman...grin

Well I work part time in the public sector so will be taking a pay cut - not sure what its going to be yet. About time I hear you say but thats not the point.

The point is that the pay cut will more than likely (not certain) drop me below the limit of having to pay any government levy, will increase my lone parents allowance and possibly my rent allowance (which has been cut 3 times this year already). Im not the only one going to be in the position - some will also be now entitled to apply for FIS.

So maybe Im wrong but surely this is just robbing Peter to pay Paul??

Not necessarely. Soime low paid workers may not be entitled to those benefits because their partners have jobs and earn decent money. After the pays cuts whoever is due assistance will get it but those that are better off financially wont. dunno

There is no way in hell they will slash drink by 20%. The rumour i heard was that they were reducing the duty but it won't equate to a 20% drop in the price of drink.

As for rent allowance, I'm not sure about this but I'd imagine its means tested and if you have a lot of money or a share in a property worth a certain amount, they won't give you rent allowance. Otherwise, i'd say you would be entitled to it.

I see Jackie Healy Ray has sold his support for a new hospital in Kerry. Whats the bet that they can't afford to staff it after it's built?
