What a Superb and Brilliant Job Obama Did Tonite !! applause cheering
Can anyone remember in their lifetime - seeing a president deliver such a complicated and emotionally driven speech without reading a teleprompter ?

I have only three questions ;

(1) Why were the "Right" sitting to his Left ? confused

(2) Why can't they clap like everyone else when brilliant things are said ? dunno

(3) WHY are they even invited to such a historic event when they have no political power ? doh

Oh, and the jerk who did the Republican response ( what was his name again ? ) Did he have a hand up the back of his head ? rolling on the floor laughing

Boy are you on cloud nine. Obama is running with his tail between his legs with the whole Democrat party behind him. THey know they will be defeated in the next two election cycles..failing economies, failing foreign policies, failing stimulus, failing healthcare...Obama better enjoy his one term presidency its all he is going to get.
cheers

Anna , I don't know if he's going to be successful doing much - considering the republicans oppose everything just to be defiant. As Obama said tonite...."they're" gonna be to blame if we can't reach decisions to pull out of this economic mess.

YES, I sense he definitely cares to do what's right for Americans - as evidenced by things he's already done which bring huge reprocussions upon himself and make him appear unpopular.

I just got through a few moments ago reading an MSN news article that because of the Republican who took over Ted Kennedy's spot that it could hurt the Democrats from the possibility of passing bills.Which in part without the Republicans votes.

He probably does care but from what I'm wittnessed I really find him to be like any other politician we've had in office.

My sister in law wrote me an email the other day saying that her and my brother were working with their 912 work group in Oregon to do all they could in making sure that their children and grandchildren benefit from the healthcare bill.

It's difficult to be up to speed with the healthcare bill - but my opinion is - if it doesn't have strong teeth to regulate health insurance companie's rates and control - then I don't want any of it ...JMO ! thumbs down

I copied/pasted exactly what was stated in the MSN website regarding the Repubs taking over Edward Kennedy's Senate seat.

Obama noted the Republicans’ takeover of Democratic icon Edward Kennedy’s Senate seat in Massachusetts last week, a result that eliminated the Democrats’ ability to pass most bills without Republican cooperation.

Here is my 24 year old daughter's take on the speech: what an arrogant, self righteous, egotistical a**hole. "let me set the record straight" give me a break.

I wholeheartedly agree.

She thinks for herself. She used to be a Democrat. Obama cured her of that. Especially after being in Iraq.

I fail to see how your daughter could suggest Obama was arrogant, egtistical, and an a**hole.............
He was in fact articulate, accurate, and straight-forward with everyhting he presented.
But, your opinions don't surprise me considering from where you are geographically. uh oh

jvaski: Americans are not going to benefit from healthcare if large corporations are allowed to operate without competition or regulation by government. Somebody has to do it - as unfortunate as that sounds ...........

You are correct Anna ...... but unfortunately it goes way beyond that . The recent supreme court ruling will further encourage huge corporations to literally put the person of their choosing in the next presidency ! It is very scary to think how with a little collaboration - World Bank or Insurance Corporations could be running our country. uh oh

Do you really think the defiance is one sided.. i seem to remember watching the same thing happen to both Bushes and Reagan as well.. It's politics as usual.. I do have to say that I believe Mr. Obama cares for the people of this country and wants to do a good job.. however, I doubt the freeze on govt. spending is gunna fly, sounds good on paper but in reality it will never work.. also he keeps talking about all these plans to put money back in the pockets of Americans.. we have been hearing this for over a year now and I have yet to see it come to fruition, however, they had no trouble at all getting our tax dollars into the hands of the banking and insurance industries.. and am i understanding that they now want to tax us to pay for the balance of the bailouts.. I fail to see how this speech was any more brilliant than any other state of the union address.. are you basing it simply on the fact that he did not use a teleprompter?
I will continue to hope for the best but I am also prepared for the usual..
