denmcintyre: Do you really think the defiance is one sided.. i seem to remember watching the same thing happen to both Bushes and Reagan as well.. It's politics as usual.. I do have to say that I believe Mr. Obama cares for the people of this country and wants to do a good job.. however, I doubt the freeze on govt. spending is gunna fly, sounds good on paper but in reality it will never work.. also he keeps talking about all these plans to put money back in the pockets of Americans.. we have been hearing this for over a year now and I have yet to see it come to fruition, however, they had no trouble at all getting our tax dollars into the hands of the banking and insurance industries.. and am i understanding that they now want to tax us to pay for the balance of the bailouts.. I fail to see how this speech was any more brilliant than any other state of the union address.. are you basing it simply on the fact that he did not use a teleprompter?
I will continue to hope for the best but I am also prepared for the usual..

The "ONLY" thing this a**hole and the rest of the government is interested in doing is taking money OUT of our pockets..doh

Since we are on the GWB kick here. A little at least.

Anyone notice that now we are going to allow the Taliban back into Afghan gov't....assuming they will lay down arms and say they will not support alQeada.....at the sametime we are doing the 30K man surge in Afghanistan.

In one way I can see the carrot and stick approach here. Surrender and join the Afghan country or face a force build up of American forces.

But

The Russians did a number of force build up in the country. They never quit till the Russian were headed out of the country. The Russian also attempted to get the Afghan into the gov't, indeed the first gov't was Afghan under the Russian. Then a Russian cou took place.

But it has to drive McCrystal and Peatris a little crazy. President Obama orders them to 'finish it" and give them 30k troops'. Then approves the Taliban to talk with the Afghan gov't of Karisia to reinsert itself.

Now McCrystal is going public asying.....yes if the Taliban want to talk with the Afghan...is OK with me. At the same time he wants to put a new Marine brigade into the village of that Taliban group.

And coming back to GWB...were I started....does this reintergration of the Taliban into Afghanistan.....sound anything like his appeasement comments in Isreal? It does, yes?

I read the fact check article as well, Stress. Does a soft shoe song dance routine come to mind? Maybe to 'Dancing in the Rain'" I think that is where we are at.

President Obama soft shoeed his way thru the land mines of the State of Union......very well mind you....but I got the feeling....like a base runner breaking for second on a steal attempt. That half way there stumbles in his strides.....he knows that catcher rocket arm throw is going to beat him by a mile. But he still has to make the try....

I was waiting for a REP congressmen....to shout out.....but it did not happen. Suspect that the DEM had rocks in their pockets to throw if one did. "You lie" has been used. REP need to be creative here.
Maybe "fibber fibber pants on fire".laugh

I am not American.....and neither do I pretend to be an expert on US politics....

....but America to me....represents the one country...that should represent all that we in the West believe in.......

...tonight I have watched the full State of the Union speech by Obama.....

...and notwithstanding whatever negative issues may have been discussed or not in this thread....as I also disregard any polarized views that have every right to be aired....

...I can only comment on my opinion....tonight I have seen a leader giving his people a vision of a different America then the one we have seen in the last decade...and once again....tinged with a hope of a better future...

.....and this quote struck a cord in my mind....

America should always stand on the side of freedom and human dignity.

...it is now up to the American people to remove their prejudices....and look ahead......not scared of different solutions then the ones they were used to in the past....

...well done Mr. President....well done....

Well said Gozomanwine I'm still glad I voted for Obama because he was the best possible candidate to bring much needed change to America. Unfortunately, change takes time, especially when politics are involvedlaugh

Hear hear!! well said!

No President, no matter how able, would be earning any brownie points dealing with what Obama had to inherit. It's a mess, but not of his making. FFS, give the guy a chance, and stand behind him. I believe his heart is in the right place.

No offense but why do people when arguing for Obama always say he is a good guy or his heart is in the right place. Now to be honest no one can really say whether that is true or not because no one knows the man personally.

However Obama is the best, nicest, funniest and coolest guy around what does it matter. If someone cant do the job they should get fired regardless of however nice or cool they are.

So please if we are going to talk politics - lets talk policy and not popularity.

Gozoman, why does America have to represent what the 'west believes in'?

America has its own identity. A young one of 200+ years. But one that has struck of the world in its diverseness and richness. Its generous giving and even its fight for freedom's cause.

What the west believes in is everything from Global warming to 9/11 conspiracy theories to atheisism to liberal political issues. A wide range of believes that are not all consistant or based on fact or truth. Which of these do you want us to 'believe in'?And then to represent?

Just because Europe sent many persons to America. Many of them came here to leave Europe behind. They had seen the oppression in your countries of religion, culture and race. They wanted something better in a new world for their children.

To my near north, Orlando, FL has some 300,000 Haitian in it. Do you want me to walk into one of the many Haitian restraunts....and say to them....take that Haitian flag down....we now will have western (e.g European) beliefs and values here. Because nearly everyone of those Haitian businesses fly thier flag. And I for one have no problem with it. Because of USA freedom of speech and expression.

But you raise a foreign flag under some western (European) nationalist leaders of the past or even today.....and we both know what happens. The petty political correctness of western (European) values and beliefs enters into the issue. How do I know that? I have been in Europe.....

Oh yes he is doing a job - just not a very good one. I love how when I put a list of facts on here - where I did above no one answers but yet you can put a smart comment above. rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

I could give you so many FACTS about this president that would make your head roll - however one thing I have come to realise about politics is that when someone else does something wrong its the worst thing in the world but when someone in your own party does the same thing you find a way to make excusesdoh doh doh

Yes this is in both parties however the Dems have far more practise at it and therefore better at it.

Because America IS the representative of western values:

DEMOCRACY....the real one applicable to the 21sr century...not the kind exported by Bush....or the one applied in the first years of modern American history that committed genocide on the indigenous peoples that lived there before the Westerners moved in....

FREEDOM of choice, religion, speech, irrespective of colour or race....and INCLUDING all races....not just the chosen ones and excluding colored, Asian or Haitian....

JUSTICE...and this includes justice to the common man....including health care, education, and retirement in peace after a life of working and making part of a society.....not based on the jungle laws of who is the strongest or richer....

THAT is what the west believes in....and that is what is expected from the largest and possibly the most powerful western nation of them all...the US...

Ttom....you cannot live in isolation...do not be so arrogant as to think that the US can stand alone....or force others to join in its arrogance.....the days of Empire are over....or haven't you noticed?
