Can anyone remember in their lifetime - seeing a president deliver such a complicated and emotionally driven speech without reading a teleprompter ?
I have only three questions ;
(1) Why were the "Right" sitting to his Left ?
(2) Why can't they clap like everyone else when brilliant things are said ?
(3) WHY are they even invited to such a historic event when they have no political power ? Oh, and the jerk who did the Republican response ( what was his name again ? ) Did he have a hand up the back of his head ?

Why.......because unfortunately we still have a lot of people in this country who love to hear about "God, Our Fore- Fathers, and their own personal interpretation is of the Constitution" and how it serves their medieval concepts.
Unfortunately, in a time when even the catholic chruch has ammended it's archaic concepts ......our rebublican friends can't come to grips with modern times and remedies. They're stuck in an ancient votex !

I will give you some credit there .......but where were and what were our upper government leaders doing when all this was stewing ? Could it be that their buddies in high corporate CEO positions were reaping the rewards with their good graces ?

YES .........I think Bush and Cheney took a HUGE role in plunging us into certain economic failure with 8 years of war-lording and regulatory reform and purposeful neglect ..........as evidenced by his remarks directly after the Obama election - Bush (and all of you republicans believe that you'r party) take no blame for the state of our economy

Well seems the DEM Senator were asleep last night at the State of Union. Senate just rejected the spending freeze proposed by President Obama by 4 votes. It needs 60 to pass. So 56 supported a spending freze.....and 44 did not.
The reason we cannot move forward is lack of bi partisan and aisle crossing. President Obama has asked for both of them. But same old Washington.......
Mark the 44 terms down on your calendar. The tea baggers will go after them in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

I take part for my role in the economy, Jvanksi. I pay my bills. I start small businesses when the environment is right. I employ people, when I can.
The DEM spending since Obama took office for the wars...is twice monthly figure that it was under GWB. GWB asked for reg on mortgage prior to the failure. Barney Franks failed to provide them.
But do REP congressmen.....do turkeys and earmarks? Sure. Its political expiedant to do so. Did GWB increase the deficit greatly, yes. He was provoding DoD with new weapons systems to take on Iran and Taliban in Afghanistan.
Those DoD contracts, many of them here in the US....meant a lot jobs and investments in USA. President Obama has done what here? Cut the major DoD contracts.....but he did order the Army to get a field pack for Afhganistan.
When he cut the DoD contracts.....that is one of the big economic engines of the country......housing, auto, oil, food, consumer goods being the others. Each one had problems........but cutting DoD contracts....he knew would further place the economy in the hole.
It is wonder that the GNP is growing at all, presently with the world situations and economics of the country. People want to make it work. But that is how strong and reseilant the country is. Not how well Washington has made good environment for prosperity of the people.

Wrong the person who had one of the biggest roles in this was Bill Clinton. After all he was the one who lowered the criteria for people to get loans / mortgages back when he was President. I said it then and 10 plus years I am saying it now and still no one listens. Government should not interfer in business. Government's job is to oversee not RUN.
So the banks lend money they before they might not have - what hapeens? People start missing their payments - companies miss theres - problems start and end with a recession.
Anybody want a recent example of why government should not get involved in business. Remember about 2 weeks ago the President said he was going to tax banks on their loans and made one of his great speeches on how he was going to stand up for Americans and "Get every penny back with interest for the American people". Do you know what happened - bank stocks crashed for 3 days. and the Dow lost about 650 point in a week.
Now yes I am a republican but there are people on both sides have made mistakes -
Clinton - for the above legislation
Congress under Clinton for approving the above
George Bush - Yes I am a fan but he is partly responsible. Not for the reason most people think though. I did not agree with all his financial decision but at least I understood his arguements and for 6 (YES 6 YEARS) they worked. But he has a hand to play as he signed the first bailout. Bailouts do not work people - never have and never will.
Congress under Bush for approving and agreeing that something needed to be done.
Obama - For making things worse and talking about Healthcare when there were more pressing issues to talk about. Also for raising the debt so high it would kill you to say the number. Although to be fair you can blame every president for this since Nixon.
Barney Frank - Could write a page on him alone but if you dont know by now google him.
Chris Dodd - Again same as above - only difference is Barney is still around. At least Dodd quit / or pushed which ever spin you choose to believe.
Bernake - Yes he is partly to blame aswell - and he won TIME Person of the Year. That is nearly as bad as Obama Peace Prize win.
People at the Federal Reserve. There job is stop recession happening (no matter if thats impossible) having the HIGHEST EVER PROFIT FOR A COMPANY and it comes during a dreadful recession where Americans are jobless.
Media - For conning the American people that companies are to big to fail. This is bull. Conning the american people that if we did not bailout the banks and the car industry etc that thousands would have been left out of work - bull. What happens when a company goes under. It competitors come along and take whats good and leave what broken and that includes employees.
Now from this you might think I am anti Government. I AM NOT. Government has a role to play and a big one to play. However I AM ANTI-BIG GOVERNMENT. It is simply impossible to succeed. I think government should not run anything be it healthcare, banks, hell I would not let them run the post office.

Fortunately, you are wrong there ....and the tone Obama set in his message was that republicans aren't cooperative purely to be defiant. There are a lot of us who simply don't care to hear republican's point of view any more what so ever.
And I don't see Brown's win as anything other than just more gid-lock in a totally divided government and country.
Rebubs will eventually have to take blame for their part of what caused this severe recession, and why we couldn't climb out of it.
