An Eye for an Eye....A Tooth for a Tooth..

Make the punishment fit the crime. In light of the arrest and confession of a killer in a very much publicized murder case, I was wondering how you folks feel about punishment fitting the crime. My opinion is that if you confess to murder, it's lights out for you right on the courthouse steps with your execution broadcast on live TV. What are your thoughts folks?

off topic.. dont call me sister...lol.. makes things seem very very wierd if you catch my drift..

on topic..

weed smokers should be left alone as long as they dont try to sell to children or smoke in public

hard drug users should be put in rehab..for a first offence.. then after that.. jail time

thiefs -made to pay back what they stole and work for free for a set amount of time for the ppl or place they stole from under supervision of cource

Punishment should fit the crime.

A life sentence of 3 meals a day, and never paying another bill just doesn't seem to fit the crime.

What is a punishment for .. ? To make an example of someone for the rest to see ? There are many clips showing legal Stoning of people , beheading , dismemberment of body parts .. etc . all punishments set by courts .

Or is the punishment a way of getting justice for the family of the victim ?
Is punishment an issue on its own or is it a part of a process . The subject is very complicated .

My opinion is that punishment has to be a part of a process where causes and all contributory factors prior to the commitment of a crime are considered . Every person negligent in this process needs to get a just punishment .. because they neglected their duties and brought the crimet a step closer to its unwanted end . In this specific case if proven , we will see , the usual chain of people whom could have stopped this criminal to become a murderer but let go .
We need to deal with crime . Punishment by itself and in this case execution addresses nothing .

I've always had a hard time thinking about prisons.

We lock people up, feed them, clothe them, give them counseling and spiritual support....

I've known some habitual offenders in state prisons who say they prefer the prison life to being outside.

If legally sanctioned punishment has no effect, is there a way to put fear into the hearts of those who commit crime?

i agree with you arabella..

prisons these days' make you want to stay..

i think that if they want to eat they should be made to work for their food.. i.e.. if they want meat they kill and clean the animal
or harvest their own vegies or fruit..

sleep on hard floors with out blankets and so forth.. and instead of an actuall prison they should be kept in a reinforced cave underground

I would tend to agree, If someone is found guilty beyond doubt or admitts to the crime (such as murder). Get a rope and find a tall tree (this is cost effective, you can reuse the rope).

People whom have potential to commit serious crimes should never be allowed back into the society . If a person with such potential is returned back to the community and commits a crime officials responsible for their release should also suffer serious consequences ..

You can't arrest a person just for potential to commit a crime, This is USA not Russia or Cuba.

P.S. You been watching to many movies from Tom Cruise
