There is your problem. Seriously you may have an affected computer, do you have security on it?? If it is a Trojan then it can do all kinds of things. Get someone to have a look at it even it means you have to reinstall Windows.

I will be honest, it sounds too complicated to do over email as some of the problems could be connectivity or directly related to the sites, or your windows settings. You can control the sounds from your taskbar, and from your personalization settings in ur control panel. Also from your device mgr as far as driver updates to sound cards, and wifi antenna. also here you would check ur speaker's settings. Also update flash and active x controls installed for online downloads. The best clean ups are the ones suggested by windows if you run windows. I have probably left some thing out because you mentioned so many things!!!! If you do not run windows, this won't all apply. Just mail me if you have questions.

First thing, clean up and pare down your start up applications, then run a disc clean up and delete as much as they suggest. But be sure to check your trash bin B4 to make sure you want rid of it all. Then defraf your disc. I'd do all that B4 trying to find your sound prob. Oh also, run disc clean up again after you defrag & mail me if you have any ????dunno

good luckhug

elsson makes a good point - delete any quarantined files, and then empty the trash bin, again

It sounds like your registry is fried. You need a good registry cleanup in addition to these steps, otherwise your start-up batches will continue to point to programs that no longer exist. Disc cleanup is all well and good, but it often deletes files that your registry still wants to refer to. Until these references are cleaned out of the registry, your computer will be schizophrenic trying to remember the name of some actor in a movie it saw once but it cant remember the Theater or who it went to see it with.laugh

Heads Up, my friend. Get a brand new one. No kidding. You can't undo all the garbage, and perhaps you already know that even "erased" time/bytes, etc...never have quality. Get a new one, do it for yourself. Honest.teddybear

can you run a check disk - use the run command chkdsk c: /F from the run command box in your start up menu and select the option (when prompted) to have windows repair any errors, or bad sectors, on the disc and to fix any files - you will be prompted to select these - probably. It may depend on your version of windows

you may have to restart your computer for chkdsk to run - it will run in dos mode - just follow the prompts - there can be no other activity for the HD when you run chkdsk

Different versions of windows vary but u should be able to do this.

Also it takes a long time.

There is more u could do wiht system restore possibly???? but it's hard to say from here.

I am betting you may need device driver updates as well???? But perhaps you've kept up with that

other than reinstalling your windows I can't think if anything else w/out actaully being there - and you want to run the chkdsk anyway to get an idea of whether ur disc is healthy B4 doing anything more drastic jmho ur welcome

Try system restore, that might help if you have recently been infected. Takes about three minutes.

they are probab;y plugnplay but you can add new hardware from your control panel if you arent sure

Also if your main prob is a slow connection ITT - then you want to look at that not your drive(s) - driver updates, connection speed etc etc

If you run slow offline - how much free space you have??? get rid of some stuff

if you load slow - control panel prorams ^ features (or something like that) and delete everything not ncessary that runs wiht your start up programs. This will not delete them from yur computer - if in doubt - leave it on their but things like windows and google sidebars take for frickin ever to load....

Most of the "helpful" posts above are a "remedy"..
but running MORE sotware to speed up
and clean up ALREADY running software just
seems to me about as sensible as our new
way of "reforming" health care..!!dunno
That said...
from the problems, and what you state..
SPECIALLY the fact you're utilizing a refurbished system..
sounds like the slowness, sound, and various
other "driver" and "soft" problems are neither hardware
or "connection" related...
But are more then likely due to your dns cache
being over run, used, and filthy..!!!grin
My "suggestion" is that before you start running, adding,
downloading, installing, and activating all kind of
"other stuff" to "assist" you in solving your problem..
Simply go to the SOURCE....and before
doing anything major.. Let's clear out your dns cache..

Utilizing the "delete browser history" button
only does superficial crap

and STILL LEAVES in a LOT of bad stuff..

To remedy and fix your problems....
do this: writing

Make sure I.E. and no programs are running...

Go to "start"..
type in "cmd"..
hit enter..
dos/command mode pops up..
(a small black window with dos access)
type in EXACTLY with spaces..(NOT quote marks..!)
"ipconfig /displaydns"
hit enter..
you will then see that ALL the crap you THOUGHT
you cleared, erased, taken out..
IS STILL there..!!!
at cursor prompt in command mode..
now type..
"ipconfig /flushdns"..
now press enter..
You should receive a confirmation from system..
you can then type "exit" hit enter..
or close command mode window..
Now your browser
(which is entwined with ALL program control)
should run smoother, faster, and with less hang-up..
(specially with audio management with various sites and ip's)
You might have malware.. which IS not same as a virus..!!
It is relatively simple to remove..
go to msn.com...
in their search box..
type "malicious software removal tool".. hit the search button..
download msn's malicious software removal tool..
run it..
about ten minute scan and all should run fine
.. comfort
dns often picks up crap, ads, and other
junk from visiting numerous domains that not only

cross script but offer "free stuff", games, etc..

specially "shopping sites" and "free sites"....
Hope this helps...typing
