Hi
I was just wondering if anyone out there has got a BT Vision Box? If so, what do you think of it and which tarif are you on?

I have BT Broadband and phone and was offered BT Vision a couple of weeks ago for a special price of £6.99 month. This is only the VERY basic package though and doesn't include any free films, music etc. I can't really believe that I managed it, but I did manage to set it up and get it working yesterday!!! A mini miracle for me, as I absolutely hate anything technical, that involves wires, plugs, scart sockets etc etc!!! doh

I think that I have a 10 day window in which to change my mind if I don't like it. I would very much like to hear from anyone who has BT Vision and what they think of it.

Thanks

Am pretty impressed with the instant "record" function on it! Recorded my 1st program tonight and the quality of the recording is soooooo much better than on my video player!! It should also record entire series too, without me having to pre-program any times in! Yippee!

...I know, I'm a bit behind the times, up until now I have still been recording on an old video player, but I am always about a decade behind everyone else with my technology!! rolling on the floor laughing

That's a shame. My Freeview breaks up too sometimes. It's very unpredictable. I got an aeriel guy to put a new digital aeriel on the roof last September. It has improved things, but sometimes programs are unwatchable because they keep breaking up or go off altogether! I rang him, but he just said it sounds like I need a booster, which would cost another £60 on top of the £100 to install the aeriel!! doh

What did they call you about? Going on Broadband or the BT Vision?

All I can say, is that so far so good. I have been enjoying the ease of recording programs, and the very powerful search facility eg. you can search for a particular program, a film or even the actor's name, and it always comes up with something. The pausing facility is fantastic too. After a lot of thought, I have decided to stick with the BT Vision at £6.99 month, and also try out Lovefilm.com for £3.99 month. They seem to have every single film ever made! (there has only been one so far that I haven't been able to find on their system!). I am really looking forward to now being able to watch all those films I've been wanting to see all these years! For this subscription you get 2 dvd's a month with free postage. Their search facility is amazing as well. The only frustration is that their site seems to run REALLY slowly, but that's probably to do with my internet connection!

Good Luck! wave

rolling on the floor laughing you remembered my sheep-stacking noise-insulation experiment then!!! laugh It didn't work ... they kept falling off and eating the carpet! roll eyes rolling on the floor laughing

Yeah, I have never had anything other than Freeview before, so these two packages are a real treat for me! yay I can watch and record a good mixture of programs on the BT Vision, and the Lovefilm.com means that I can watch the films that I really have always wanted to watch! (I'm pretty fussy! roll eyes ), so these two seem to cover everything for £11 a month, which is a LOT less than the other tv packages!

PS. The £6.99 deal from BT is only available through a special telephone deal, so if you haven't arranged for them to ring you back, then perhaps you could ring them and ask for it, if you have been with BT for a while. From what I have read on review sites, I would steer clear of their internet packages, if you only want the basics, like I do. They do have a "Picturebox" package but it is only 28 films and I believe only 6 of them are renewed every month, although I may be wrong about that. Whatever it is, people on the reviews weren't very happy with the very limited choice. You can pay "on demand" for films with BT Vision too, but they would work out more expensive than Lovefilm.com, and you only have a limited choice.

Hope that helps!! wave

Well, at the start of this thread, that's what I was wondering about, but I have now used BT Vision a lot (testing it out within my given 10 day trial) and it DOES have an awful lot of advantages over just Freeview alone....for me, anyway. I love the fact that you can pause, rewind and fast forward live tv! It's great when nature calls or when you fancy a cuppa! Also, there are about 4500 programs that you can watch...many of them free, although they do charge for quite a lot of them, but I won't be watching those ones. BT also gave me a free wireless hub (whatever that is!), as you need it to work the BT Vision. If it wasn't for all the old miles of wiring in the house, it would increase my broadband connection substantially! roll eyes As it is, according to BT, it has increased it from 4MB to 8MB.

Blimey! I sound like I know what I'm talking about!! laugh

Well, I am always about a decade behind any technological advances...I got rid of my Sony Walkman and got a portable CD player, which I have now given to my elderly mum. I haven't got a clue about ipods, but think I would probably enjoy using one around the house as the walls are so thin, I can only have loudish music on in the kitchen with all the doors shut! But, then you know that! laugh ..... Back to the sheep-stacking insulation! rolling on the floor laughing

And, yes...I am getting very sheepy now yawn

You lucky thing! Here in Cyprus I was paying between €70 - €80 a month for 2MB plus phone calls. The calls only averaged €5 - €6 a month and the rest was for the broadband. That was with CYTA, which have had a monopoly until recently but more alternatives are slowly appearing depending on your locality.

Have now switched to Telepassport, which is ONLY about €40 for the same service. A lot of the time the speed is actually a lot slower than we are paying for over here so not so good for watching tv via the computer sometimes.

Can't wait until Cyprus catches up with the UK regarding cheap broadband connections!
