I could be wrong but did you mean advice?

I'm not a teacher but that does depend on what was discussed and then your common sense comes into play.

For someone like RZ to even consider posting and asking for advice, I would say it is VERY serious.

He's not the type to piss around.

However, your advice is sensible too.

I agree with you and I wasn’t trying to kid around with him, my comment was very broad and general.

I’m sure it’s something serious and he means business.

In my opinion there are only one rule in making decisions on students--the truth! All communication with students should be made in private, be accurate, reflect a relationship to what the student has done or not done, and reflect his/her actions against standards and other student's performance.

Student- Teacher confidentially should not apply if another student or staff is harmed in any way if this is the reason

At least try & understand his question!! Obviously a student has provided him with confidential information, but he is, I suspect, wondering whether or not this information should be passed on to other people, even though the student requested him to keep it between them only... sigh

If you want another perspective Riz, drop me a line, though I am no teacher, but I do know one wink Also, if not already done so, I think Jan would be good to consult with.. wine

Teachers are expected to run the whole spectrum, without faith and only logic.
Is this student a minor? Is this a legal or physical situation.
In the US teachers can not bring religions into the public schools.
I think you should find the root problem and direct the student to the adviser he/she needs.

NO matter what questions ANYONE asks, Riz will NOT answer them here. He has expressed it to be done via email and he won't bring it out in the open. Speculate all you want peoples, you'll never get to know what, why or when.

I'm no teacher and am unable to help you, which I regret.
Wouldn't it be possible for you to ask for advice to a Chinese friend or colleague? Customs are so different that I wonder if any western teacher could be able to help you.
Take care! cheers

Take care!

I wholly agree, however, most of my Chinese friends are working colleagues, and so would immediately guess it was one of my students, therefore placing that student in a possible awkward position and showing I had broken their trust.
I have followed some of the advice given to me and hopefully the problem will now be placated.
I am extremely grateful to those who understood the seriousness of my OP and who have given such useful input toward sorting this problem.

CS may at times be a battlefield, but, when genuine help is needed, the wise and wonderful come forward with great advice and support. I thank you hug bouquet wine

Yes I think it is partly resolved, now in the students hands to make their decision, but at least they know there is someone they can turn to for help and support.
