They lack any form of culture, america was founded on rejected religious colonies from europe that focused on setting up utopian societies in a lot of cases, but from a modernist perspective i see america as place with disproportional social divides as compared to most countries in europe......On a lighthearted point....example....irish person wins a car on late late show, reply o thanks :) bye ryan!, american person wins car on ellens show, reply OMG!!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!OOOOOOOOOOOOOO YA BABY, YEAH YEAH OOOOOOOO OMFG ARRRRRRRRRGHHHHHH and then poops their pants :)

Haha, I have been obsessed with America, definitely because of TV since I was maybe 4 years old.
I think that in my younger years, we absolutely looked to them for what was cool, the done thing, nowadays it seems Ireland and indeed Europe are well able to create their own version of cool.
Still though, you can't beat or rival the states for T.V.
And boy oh boy do I appreciate their T.V.
I really don't want to get into a debate about wars on terror, Obamas plans for healthcare, I've eaten too much.

Gotta say, I actually find the TV here quite annoying. The commercials are constant, and there are alot of quite silly shows. Also, certainly in the area that I live in, you HAVE to have either cable or satellite. There is no Countrywide station, like RTE or the BBC.

My most fave new addition to my TV Hall of Fame is Family Guy. Totally brilliant and so funny..rolling on the floor laughing

America is a lovely country , great scenery and whereever you go it seems so familiar from tv and movies that it is really like stepping on to a film set complete with accents.
Found the people there to be lovely and friendly and really helpful.
you asked about america and its people and they are my views from being there, I dont agree with a lot of your governments foreign policy and find the education system to be very insular and certainly not very open to others views or beliefs, found the food over there inedible but loved the people and the sightseeing.

I have asked myself this question also!laugh

I guess its just that they either charge less for the commercial air time, and so have to offer more, or that they are just plain greedy..dunno

Seriously, I dont know. I do know it does drive me crazy, especially when Im watching a movie.

I will say that, in the case of special sports events in particular, they do make exceptions, and have "Commercial Free" periods, in order to enjoy them.

There is also one channel that is called the Public Broadcasting System, which is funded totally by the viewers, which is totally commercial free. The viewers choose the programs, and its a joy to watch. I watch it alot, as there are alot of good BBC dramas etc on it.

cheers
