...my posts or threads here are better understood and appreciated by the EU folk. I wander occasionally here from my home in the EU forum, but few people get it unless they are EU wanderers like myself.
Isn´t it nice and special, but frustrating at times EU folk, to refer to things which our US cousins have no inkling or understanding of?

Ah, Jan..
I can understand where you are coming from with this, but thats a little unfair. There may be a difference of wording, senses of humor and suchlike, but that should not be a reason to put you off posting here. Most will understand you, or at least attempt to, and the ones that done are not worth your time anyway, dont you think?

Just like some of those weird cultural things that we understand, but those EU folk don't have the slightest clue about. ;)
Me thinks the babe from Potsdam must be pretty well versed in the ways of the US and Yanks by now. I know what you mean though. It's a learning process. I have no idea what a Scouser is. I'm sure there are expressions and things that are common knowledge to Americans but leave you wondering, I can't think of any at the moment though.

well for one we call the back yard a back yard....seem to be a garden to the folks across the big pond...a garden to us is where you plant food or flowers not the whole yard(garden)...or the differance between a "Yankee"(North of the mason dixon line),a "Damn Yankee"( a yankee that moves south and stays there),and a "Southerner"(Well they live south of the mason dixon line),and a "redneck"(lives in a trailer and possibly married his second cousin)......A "hillbilly"(has one leg longer than the other so they don't fall off the hill)....or a "river rat" (someone like me that is ankle deep in the swamp,I live in the valley close to the river) hope this help ya'll across the pond a little....doing my part to make the world a little smaller and nicer for everyone....

As one of the second class citizens of the International Forums from the poor USA division I would simply like to say I agree it isn't very nice! I will continue to fight to understand your complicated language. Learning English as my second language will be difficult, but I promise to educate myself in your ways.

People from the U.S are not expected to understand Europeans for 2 reasons if i may.
Europe has many languages.
Most Americans have little or no idea what happens outside the States, example...
I walked into a booze store in New York and asked the kind lady for a bottle of Whiskey, she then asked where i was from. I replied England, she replied politely that i for a foriegner spoke very good English.....
I thanked her and walked out!!!!! Little or no education i wonder

Kind of obvious, that!!
Also, the OP (Jan) is talking from her OWN point of view, and she is English. So, consequently, I dont think ANYONE in the States would have trouble understanding her words.
As regards senses of humor, of course there are cultural differences..That goes without saying, and doesnt make either country "superior" to the other..
Finally, as regards TV programs, like Bill and Ben, and Postman Pat - why the heck SHOULD Americans know who they are? They were not screened here!! And its hardly a matter of National Importance anyway!!
Its like people here saying, "Well, the Europeans dont know who Ron White is, or Andy Griffith: how STUPID are they???" Of course they are not stupid, they just didnt have the programs streamed in Europe. So what??

No ones mentioning T.V shows here!
And intellect is not measured on knowledge of cultural shows. More focused on things such as if i say i am from England, naturaly my English for a foriegner would be perfectly good

I mentioned the TV programs because another poster mentioned them earlier in the thread. I never said you did.
And I TOTALLY agree with this emboldened statement. Hardly important!
So why the subject of TV shows came up in the first place is beyond me..

But your uses of the written lag. and grammer needs a bit ....you think....
