Meant to say the goal scored by algeria was a replica of the one by the USA ,as the slovenia goalie let it slip out of his fingers

I blame the vuvuzelas grin

No, they are not annoying, the tournament is played in South Africa, and part of the attraction is to soak up the culture and atmosphere of the host nation.

Ban them and you might as well hold the competition in sterile Germany every time, chanting only when allowed to do so, in FIFA approved songs, at an agreed volume ...... ;)

I am sooo happy that you enjoyed the Cup in 2006! I take it you were there? I could only be there for the last 2 weeks....and only caught a glimpse of some English being sent back to the UK for singing too noisily, I tell you that nearly made me fall off my jackboots.

Your view of Germany is as correct as your opinion that plastic trumpets in SA being culture and tradition, in fact the vuvuzela was first introduced in 2001. It is banned from rugby in SA as I was told. I wonder why???

Regards from sterile Germany.........I would write more , but am searching for instruction in the FIFA handbook of what song to sing at the match starting soonfrustrated

World Cup organising chief Danny Jordaan has revealed that vuvuzelas could be banned from matches following complaints from players, broadcasters and supporters.

The trumpet-like instrument has been one of the main talking points from the first few days of the tournament in South Africa.

Some supporters have criticised the lack of traditional atmosphere inside stadia with the horns drowning out chanting and singing.

The drone-like noise is picked up by stadium microphones and has led to complaints from broadcasters, while some players claim they are unable to hear their team-mates during matches.

"If there are grounds to do so, yes," said Jordaan when asked if a ban might be introduced.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme: "We have heard from the broadcasters and other individuals and it is something we are evaluating on an ongoing basis.

"We have tried to get some order with it. We have asked for no vuvuzelas during national anthems or anyone is making an announcement. I know it is a difficult question but we are trying to manage it as best we can.

"This matter has been raised on many occasions and my personal view is that I would prefer singing.

"It has always been a great generator of a wonderful atmosphere in the stadiums and we will try to encourage them to sing because that is the strength.

"It is a huge debate and it will continue, but we did say that if one lands on the pitch in anger then we will not think twice and take action."

heidi2765: . It is banned from rugby in SA as I was told. I wonder why???

Here's your answer:

Rugby fans will have to leave their vuvuzelas at home for Saturday’s Test between the Springboks and France.

The Bulls played a semi-final and final at Soweto’s Orlando Stadium, and over the course of those 160 minutes, there wasn’t a second when a local fan wasn’t blaring a vuvuzela. Football World Cup fever has swept the nation, and as an icon of the South African event, it seems vuvuzelas have since found their way into less traditional venues.

Bok vice-captain Victor Matfield has spoken about the energy these instruments provide and how the South African rugby team has enjoyed an authentic vibe in the build up to the World Cup. The Boks are hoping to draw on that energy in Saturday’s Test, and given most of them experienced the noise when the Bulls battled the Stormers in the Super 14 final, it shouldn’t be a hindrance.

But according to Newlands policy, no instruments are allowed inside the stadium for rugby matches. Vuvuzelas are permitted when football matches are staged at the venue, but WP Rugby has confirmed that for ‘technical reasons’, the ban on vuvuzelas at rugby games will remain. Players complain that they can’t hear the referee or the on-field calls for moves and line-outs.

There has been some debate as to whether the ban would be lifted for this one match, given the hype around the football World Cup and the rise in the vuvuzela’s popularity, but Newlands will remain a no-vuvuzela zone.
