WhatUwish4: Well I can tell you why I carry one. I'm a single mom with two beautiful young daughters. When I go to sleep at night, I never forget the fact that I am their first and only line of defense in the event somebody tries to break in. I like knowing I can shoot first and ask questions later. You know why??? Because it's the ONLY chance I'm going to have against the S.O.B.
It's a shame you live in such a violent society that you have to think that way.
Oh for crying out loud. AIB dont use them. Tell me this. Why would our government let AIB use the Army as their own private security firm????????? Banks have to use private security firms. If they army was there for them why do they use Group 4 and Securicor?

It's a shame any of us have to worry about violence, but in my book it's a matter of simple logic. Given that it's up to me and me alone to protect my lambs, I'm just not willing to sit back and be complacent and "trust" that nothing bad will happen. Idealogy is great for dreamers, but not very practical in real life. I would never forgive myself if I didn't somehow have a plan in place to protect us.
shotstopper: If you read back you will see this discussion started when a certain lady boasted that in her State they carry their guns in their boots!!!!!!!
yes of course.....but what you must understand is that you cannot make a sweeping conclusion of the U.S. because of a few states any more than I could make one of all of Europe because of a few counties...
Our states are the size of the countries in Europe and the laws vary state to state.....just as they do country to country there...
This is also why we do not have passports as you did not need them ( up till a few years ago) to travel though the states ,Canada, and Mexico.....If you live in Europe it only makes sense to have a passport as your countries are smaller and travel requires them...

I agree.
Though again i see her view point. I actually have a stun gun....it wont kill, but its something i will use and ask questions later.
This is why i do not wish for gun laws in this country.
A young lad was shot a fair few years ago for entering someone's farm yard. He meant no harm other than stealing what was left outside of the property...he was shot dead at the age of 17 i think. Just saying
shotstopper: In my country people get house alarms and have good locks on windows and doors. Plenty of single mothers with beautifull children here too.
Friend where we live I never lock my doors and many times I have left my keys to my truck in it.....most of what you read/hear reflects life in the big cities.....the rural areas (which is the largest part of America) it is very much non-dramatic....
bodleing: It's a shame you live in such a violent society that you have to think that way.
It is only a very small fraction of America that is this way Gra...My area is more like how you would view Canada than what you would think of America as...

You're right davpk, and it's much the same where I live. The only problem is that it only takes ONE idiot, one prison break, one drug-crazed messed-up M.F., and your life could be over. JMHO

Besides... I like em!
We have our 'lambs' over here also. Safe, despite our dreams and ideologies, and of course practical, we dont feel the need to guard our children with guns, so we dont need them.

No....thats what i believe also. Why introduce into society a weapon made for death?
I can protect my lambs without a bullet. And there is nothing more dangerous than a mother protecting her young. Night lovelys xx

But you still needed a passport to leave the US ato visit anywher else but Mexico and Canada. In Europe if you travel by ferry and drive a driving licence will suffice to go from one EU Country to another. It is the air lines that require passports for security reasons. Why would you only want to visit Canada and Mexico in a lifetime anyway? The world is a big and wonderfull place.
shotstopper: I thought i was on the INTERNATIONAL FORUMS?? I did not realise they were US FORUMS????? So if you don't want internation opinion I suggest you dont post on INTERNATIONAL forums? Simple.
First of all, there IS no US forum, so this is the only one we have other than the itty bitty state forums which are deader than Dixie.
Second, I don't have a problem in the world with other countries participating in discussions about our country. In fact, I welcome the various discussions and the chance to exchange ideas. But I do get a bit chuffed when I hear people like you piping off on a thread like this with such obvious arrogance, condescension, and apparent lack of any first-hand knowlegdge.
But you were here first, so the floor is yours. Having said my peace, I'll leave you to your opinions.

I really do not see why Americans use the protection thing as a reason for the second amendment as thats is not really the reason ,and I believe that when we as Americans debate this issue and use this stance it does more harm than good.....We do not allow them to ban guns for one reason is that they constantly "Chip" away at our rights and we (as a people) have to draw a line somewhere in the sand ....and this amendment is the perfect place to do so...Also it was a right given to us (mainly from ex-Europeans) to guard from our own goverment....now yes we know that is silly in this day and age ,but as I said we have to draw the line somewhere...
