TheresMyFriend: I am from the South, but I don't think carrying a gun would be a location issue.
There are reasons everywhere, to be prepared to defend/protect yourself.
I carry mine, because of the diamond rings I wear (not many 2-3 most of the time), but I should have the right to protect myself from would-be robbers or wrong doers.
Just my opinion.
If you did visit the South, I hope it was a pleasant one.
I agree... you have very valid reasons for owning guns. I truly didn't understand that before..
There are some very beautiful places in the south and for the most part the people were very friendly
I don't get the whole Grits and ermmmm whats that other thing...the intestine thingy???

ttom500: Maybe a Hollywood set...were they are making a western movie. But since you have better knowledge of the US than Ooby and myself....
can you give us a name of this weapon tootin town?
If I had a little more time (I'm at work right now,) I probably could. I am referring to a programe I saw on BBC4 not long ago. I'm not sure but I seem to remember the overt carrying of guns was mandatory. Anyway, they were interviewing people on the street, everyone had a gun on display. They even went to a mother and child meeting group and all the mothers were 'tooled up' it seemed quite bizarre. Maybe someone can find some info on this.

Not sure if this is the town featured in the program, but it seems there are many like this.
"Southern U.S. town proud of its mandatory gun law."

because America has always represented and portayed to me hope and the indomitable spirit of man! from shaking of the shackles of english tyranny to the election of Barrack Obama, great inventors like Henry ford and Alexander graham Bell only continued to prove if its at all possible its possible in America! America gave me superman, rocky, hulk hogan, the A team a wonderfull people that bounced back from dark times like the great depression and 9/11, what would the world be if we had never encountered the beautiful and wonderful acts of men like Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan i cant say im proud to be American because im not American but im proud there is an America
Before signing of last night I told you I would ask the Lord why the U.S. is like a God to the world. The answer was of a god the world promotes, and freely enjoys.
"In 2005, the United States spent $27.3 billion on official development assistance, the most in the world; however, as a share of gross national income (GNI), the U.S. contribution of 0.22% ranked twentieth of twenty-two donor states. On the other hand, nongovernmental sources such as private foundations, corporations, and educational and religious institutions donated $95.5 billion. The total of $122.8 billion is again the most in the world and seventh in terms of GNI percentage."
God did help, assist with the foundation of a nation based on Christian values, that the world has praised has a god, the world has taken advantage of its un-godly embrace, its public of that embrace. TIMES ARE CHANGING, and it is not the way those of SELF-LOVE expected.
"Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths. Theoretic politicians, who have patronized this species of government, have erroneously supposed that by reducing mankind to a perfect equality in their political rights, they would, at the same time, be perfectly equalized and assimilated in their possessions, their opinions, and their passions."
