shotstopper: But you still needed a passport to leave the US ato visit anywher else but Mexico and Canada. In Europe if you travel by ferry and drive a driving licence will suffice to go from one EU Country to another. It is the air lines that require passports for security reasons. Why would you only want to visit Canada and Mexico in a lifetime anyway? The world is a big and wonderfull place.
No one said we do ....it is expensive to travel abroad and the arverage American cannot afford this.....and really you must see that countries the size of America ,Canada, and Mexico you could easily spend a lifetime and still not see it all.....it really just makes sense if you think about it...
WhatUwish4: First of all, there IS no US forum, so this is the only one we have other than the itty bitty state forums which are deader than Dixie.
Second, I don't have a problem in the world with other countries participating in discussions about our country. In fact, I welcome the various discussions and the chance to exchange ideas. But I do get a bit chuffed when I hear people like you piping off on a thread like this with such obvious arrogance, condescension, and apparent lack of any first-hand knowlegdge.
But you were here first, so the floor is yours. Having said my peace, I'll leave you to your opinions.
First hand knowledge? So you need to live there to have an opinion? MMMMM...Well I lived in Cali for a few years so do I have the right to an opinion now? Or maybe you have to have been shot, mugged, robbed to have an opinion on the matter???? Tell me how you get first hand knowledge on this subject? And how you got yours?

In fairness though, I could spend a lifetime travelling around Britain and Ireland and still not see it all. But I like to travel to experience different cultures in their country, see different cities, hear different languages, eat different food....I could not do this properly just travelling around Ireland and Britain.

Me as well ...where were you at.....so then you know first hand that most of what you say does not even come close to the gun debate that you yourself have been debating as I said your average JOE American does not carry a gun on thier person.....
shotstopper: In my country people get house alarms and have good locks on windows and doors. Plenty of single mothers with beautifull children here too.
Lmao...locks on windows keep honest people honest, nothing more.
I guess you could hope an alarm will alert someone
who can help you, or you could help yourself, like we do.
If you didn't live in a country that legally forbids you

I lived and worked in San Fran during the dot.com boom. Really liked it ther too. Great city. Very laid back and easy thinking people. Just like home really.
[ you either love it or hate it , me I love it , it's been good to Ireland and Ireland has been good to it , the US does more good than harm to the world .uote]why is the US like a god to the world?????

actually you DO need a passport to visit canada and mexico and also a passport to visit anywhere in the world regardless where you live
and btw mexico and canada is also a big and wonderful place
north and south america have many many cultures to learn about.
did you come to CS to be snarky, to educate 'the rest of the world' to date or to share? hard to tell as youre getting pretty abrasive and bossy

Well in other countries locks prevent people from gaining access easily. The alarm also alerts you, the police and neighbours to intruders. Breaking a good lock and not waking someone from a sleep is a hard thing to do. Also it is a brave intruder that hangs around when an alarm is tripped. We protect our families just fine without guns in the house.

Also you must understand that we are a melting pot of the world so you can very easily taste feel and experiance the cultures of the most of the world within our own borders...
For example you can visit "China Town" in most any major city in America...Thier are many others as well....many from Ireland ,Germany.....then of course you have to include Hawaii and the Islands south of Fl., Key West as well
Seriously I have read this whole thread and it bothers you so much that people who live in another country choose to carry guns thanks for your concern.

Actually, I have been shot at and have also experienced an attempted break in, but that's not really germaine to the discussion. What IS relevant to this discussion is that even though I have carried guns for more than 30 years I have yet to use one on anybody. THAT IS THE POINT. It is there for protection and protection only, which is my right as an American citizen. I do not brandish them about, I do not get drunk and fire them off for kicks, I do not ever misuse them in any way, shape or form. And I also keep them under lock and key at all times.
Again... law abiding citizens are not part of this problem.

and also of note much of the worst heinous type crime occurs nowadays in the rural expanses of america and also the indian reservations as the only drug you can make yourself increases in popularity
methamphetamine
its americas sad and dirty little secret that has devastated many and most of the idyllic small towns in america
this has caused astronomical rise in family strife, violence and thefts of all types of buildings-occupied and not.

It was your fellow citizan that told me you dont need a passport to travel to those countries so take thatr up with him.
I never said there was anything wrong with Mexico and Canada did I? I just said in a lifetime I would want to vist more than 3 countries. You are the one who jumped in with the snarky comment without reading previous posts so I suggest you read the whole thread.
Anyway I am off to bed. Better make sure I have my AK47 under the bed and Colt 45 under my pillow or I just wont be able to sleep.
