sadly it every where it a big money makeing buisness from
film makeing to books maybe not a allways a good influnce
on the minds of children to the reality of life. so many things
now in the world try to influnce the minds of our children
so much more from when i grew up in the 70s.[/quote

Chronicles of Narnia was out for decades before the 70s!

There has been some version of this conversation for as long has there has been entertainment produced for the masses. I'm sure Ancient Romans grumbled about hidden messages at their games laugh And it will continue long after we're gone!

libroman: I think sneaking any hidden message into a film is just wrong. Religious or otherwise

Unless that hidden message is eat well and exercise

But ulterior motives a rarely a good thing.

Absolutely. Especially when you end up looking at product placement and things like that. I, Robot was like a giant commercial for Converse.

i think it can be a cop out to make you thnk that a wash out movie has something more to it then it does,

Either that or they are making a sad attempt to turn a movie into an 'epic' movie. What hollywod seems not to realise is all the special sffects in the world cant compensate for a good storyline and decent acting....Shawshank redemption is a classic example,,,no frills, no crazy effects just a simple story brought to life ny some amazing acting

Thinking about it. Some of my favourites have been ones with no special effects (or at least the bare minimum).
When I left the cinema after watching Garden State, American Beauty, 500 days of summer and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind, it just felt good have watched a great story with nothing added.

Damn right

I think 2 of the best movies around at the moment are 'Harry Brown' and 'Incendury'

Pretty much lacking in effects but relying on stort lines.

I still cant believe Shawshank got 0 Oscars!!

confused

15 years ago, no-one had heard of it. I remember renting it when it first came out and telling people how great it was bu no-one believed me. It's only since people finally started talking about it that it's become so popular. The Tape/DVD sales have been increasing year after year.
I'm not sure whether to be upset about everyine jumping on the bandwagon or be happy cause it's finally getting the recognition it deserved.

Incidentally. Foresst Gump won the best picture that year. Not a bad choice but Shawshank is def better.

Ian McKellem.

Stand by me is another good one. Funny how the Stephen King adaptions which aren't horror did the best. confused

There is so much out there, depends on what you like. My favourites would be:
The Three Colours Trilogy,
Pan's Labyrinth
4 Months, 3 Weeks and Two Days (harrowing but worth a watch)
Le Serpent starring Olga Kurylenko from the last Bond movie
Amelie
A Very Long Engagement
Le Reine Margot
Cinema Paradiso (A beautiful film, brilliant!)

There are so many...Empire recently did a list of the top 100....lots of classics in there

Kodexx: I just realised God is Dog spelt backwards....

I feel a screen play coming on!!!!!!

used to work with a guy who's nickname was Maddog. Almost everything he owned had Maddog written, printed, or stenciled on it. He was also a born again Christian...

So he got real offended when we would take the Lords name in vain within earshot of him.

So he was less than pleased when some observant person pointed out to him what you get when Maddog was spelled backward...

The boy had to throw out almost all of his worldly possesions in order to keep his soul clear...
