Fallingman: is Guns and Roses some kind of music act?

I would use the term loosely when it comes to some performers.

Footage from last nights "concert".

If he was this late on stage and anyway close to as arrogant then frankly I'd have been throwing petrol bombs and not empty mineral bottles at the stage.

i cant ubderstand why people defend what they done last nite
axel is a has been he has done nothing of relevance in a long long time
i feel the people were entitled to boo
this guy who jumped off a stage causing injuries and a riot in the past gets on his high horse because a couple of bottles are aimlessly thrown on stage
the reality of it is he knows he is finished and cannot deliver those G n R classics

Alpha01: And to the people saying it's just Axl and "musicians". These musicians have been with the band for a few years. It's not some people that he strung together for a new tour. They were replacements as the other band members left. The longest one, being there since 2004 and they're every bit as good as the old ones. For full details on who has been in the band, check this out.

I was there too and you pretty much sum up a lot of my feelings too. Except that by the time he they came back out for the 2nd time, the place was dead. There was a terrible atmosphere and Axl just standing there phoning it in was awful. I felt sorry for the rest of the band as they gave it all they had and put on a good show. The music was excellent, every bit as good as it would be with Slash, Duff and Izzy.

I think from the moment Axl walked out on stage, I knew a walkout was on the cards. We were pretty close to the front and it was obvious he was in one of his moods. The poor guy chasing after him trying to hook him up to his mike had an awful time trying to set it up. I have never seen that happen in any concert. His mike had issues throughout and he could not be heard over the band. Partly that will be due to the aging process on his voice, but the mike played a role. And of course his strop played a role too.

It basically looked like Axl showed up at 10:30 and walked straight out on stage. When I saw that, I knew trouble was coming with the the booing. The plastic bottles issue was not that bad in relative terms. Much more has been thrown on stage at other gigs. I saw the Pearl Jam guys trying to catch some of the bottles thrown at them on the volley and basically making a joke out of it.

All in all, the bottle throwing in excusable but it hides many, many other issues about it. The woeful supporting act were clearly trying to buy time with their never ending set.

libroman: They all need each other to write great songs, I agree there. But there is a chance that they had already shot their load and would not have wrote many more great songs after Use Your Illusion. A lot of bands level out and given the output of G'N'R, Slash's single stuff and Velvet Revolver, that points to that. It all gets too familar after a while and it cannot match the earlier stuff. The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith etc point to that.

Although it could point to one potentially great album if all of that was pieced together and they all had a chance to edit and rework stuff. But my point is that there is no way to know what would have happened if they stayed together. Maybe it is better that the original line up only had one semi-dud (Spaghetti Incident) instead of having a Chinese Democracy type album. On the note of the changing members, I don't hear too many saying that AC/DC are not the real deal now that Bonn Scott is dead. Or any of the many other bands who have changed members.

I'd agree if it was one or two members that had changed over the years but when i saw them in 2007, i was surprised it was basically only two members from the original band that was left. I thought it was a terrible gig in 2007 and vowed never to pay that kind of money again so didn't go last night.

As for him showing up late, well that was unacceptable but i also think throwing stuff at them was unacceptable too. If it was a football match and one team was playing particularly bad and were beaten heavily, people would have been arrested for throwing missiles.

It is always wrong to throw stuff, there is never any excuse. Anybody that does is being a scumbag.

But it wasn't that they were bad, it was that there was no real idea what was happening. I'd say a lot of people there may not have known Axl's tendency to be late or to be an a**hole. He has grand when they played the RDS, they started bang on time and he was lively and energetic. Last night was back to the Axl that broke up the original band.

Yeah true. What destroyed the experience for me in the RDS was he kept coming out and going back in again after every song. There was as many instrumentals or "jamming sessions" as songs. Just when I started to enjoy it, he would go back in again for a few minutes.

I knew he was very temperamental and that coupled with the constant interruptions, i figured it might be a waste of money to buy tickets for them again. As you said, he does have a reputation for running late so i don't think the crowd should have been that surprised.....JMO.
