My son bought a 25LB sack of rice that originated in Thailand Elephant Brand, scented Jasmine rice. It is infested with bugs. They are dark brown, about 4mm long with wings and 2 short forward pointing antenae. (they don't like boiling water ) Anybody know what kind of bug this is? Lucky for me I have chickens which love cooked rice, bugs & all.

well if the bugs like the rice ,then there is nothing wrong with it . Is it black or white rice ???
OK after doing some online research I'm fairly certain these are called "Confused Flour Beetles". Some people say they put the rice in water, the beetles float to the top and they skim them off and proceed to cook and eat the rice. aaaa I think I'll pass. I'd rather put the rice into the chickens and eat the eggs thank you.
Also ginger, I learned there is a big difference in weevils so yes these could have been weevils just not the granery weevils I'm familiar with.

I'm looking at a map of the area. You are near the Arabian sea. Must be a beautiful area. I met a beautiful woman online several years ago from Lahore. I lost track of her once I told her brother I was unable to sponsor him. I think she was just a teaser to help out the brother. A story for another day. Was Lahore flooded?

Yep. I did't think they were at first, because I was used to the granary ones too, from when I used to sieve them out of the flour in Kenya and then cook with it. (We had nothing else, so had to eat it).
But then I looked them up, and there are rice weevils too, which look completely different, and are different again depending on the continent they come from too.
I brought some weevils home from the grocery store once in a box of biscuit mix. I almost went crazy when I saw them in my cabinets. I had to throw away everything, wash everything down with chlorox. Had 3 huge trash cans of food I had to toss.
When I took the mix back to the grocery store the next day, they immediately took their stock from the shelves.
