invinciblemuse: I love cooking. Food has to be good, or it's not worth eating. So, I always cook, always from scratch - microwaves are just for heating up leftovers!
I'm with you all the way.
I have a microwave (a gift) but I only use it (sometimes) to defrost frozen stuff.
What is you preferred food? I'm into pasta, traditional and spur of the moment stuff and I hate cream and chips.
Witchaywoman: It sounds like you would be just as happy sewing or some other craft. It sounds like cooking is a hobby that makes you happy instead of just feeding yourself. If left to my own devices with a billion dollars I would hole up in a ranch house, live on fast food and make stained glass and sew like a maniac until the day I fell over dead. Hmm, I would also read and have cats. But that's besides the point.
You're right It is a hobbie.
I enjoy sewing for the house, cushions, curtains etc. but there is only so much I need for the house. Embroidery ect. is not for me. I potter around with painting, gardening to keep myself busy until I find someone I can cook for. Fortunately I have lots of friends I can invite to eat and I give away preserves when invited back. Makes a change from taking wine to parties.
Beside cooking I have a cat and lots of books. But I don't want to end up as an old lady with cats.
mariola: Do you cook meals for yourself even though you live alone.
I cook for myself all the time, but I LIKE TO EAT OUT alot too!
I mean proper home made meals, not heated up in microwave.
I love cooking and although I live alone I still cook all my meals from fresh ingredients. I preserve foods and make my own sauces, jams, pickles and chutneys.
I usually end up giving most of them away as I can't eat all I make.

Last night I actually broke down and fixed a real meal.
I had some large pasta shells in the pantry, so I went to the store and bought ground beef, 2 jars of Picante sauce (mild) and a packet of mozzarella cheeze. Boiled the shells, browned the ground beef and then added a jar of Picante Sauce to the beef. Stuffed the shells with the ground beef/picante sause mixture and placed in a greased baking dish. Mixed 2nd jar of Picante sauce with what's left of the mixture and spread across the stuffed shells. Spread the cheese across the top and bake at 350 for about 35 minutes or until cheese is slightly browned. Mexican Stuffed Shells

Leftovers for dinner tonight
im impressed a man who can cook a nice meal is a rare thing around where i live..most of them go out to dinner and dont cook..lol
I live alone and I do find it really difficult to cook single servings of everything. I have so much stuff in my freezer... It takes me 6 meals to finish a $1.00 box of pasta! I buy big packages of meat and then separate it into single-serving portions and freeze them, to use one at a time. My grocery bill is very low, though! I spend like 100-150$ tops on groceries every month, and I eat home cooked from scratch meals every day. The only thing I use the microwave for is to defrost something if I forgot to take it out of the freezer in the morning.
