I voted "Yes". Smoking leaves a positive imprint. It is usually related to being cool, a good accompaniment to coffee, beer and other drinks. The nicotine makes you feel relaxed when you need to puff. In reality it is the craving for nicotine that is making you feel desperate in the first place. It is said that for those that really want to stop smoking, (after hyping yourself with reasons for wanting to stop), quitting smoking is a five minute job: just brace yourself for five minutes when you feel the urge to smoke, and just don't do it. Repeat everytime you need to smoke. Compliment yourself on every success. Think positive not negative. If you fail, just don't loose heart, just start the process again.
I read all your posts on this thread and I find all your analysis and assessments and advice spot on.
If I may chip in my two cent bit, you stop short of for how long should one try to keep this positive attitude that you so rightly advice.
I was (is?) in the same situation more or less. After three years I gave up. At 60+, I no longer have the energy to bother with people that think that they know it all.
I think that the father is not delivering or complying. He ought to try harder at working as a team.
You are not giving it to us straight. I peeved your profile and I cannot fathom it out.
I mean a young animal lover, with a captivating smile and who is a biker that who goes out to concerts and stuff....and who is not very very tall, (meaning that finding someone just a wee bit taller as is your wish), is not a tall order.
Tell us please, that you are having second thoughts.
In my opinion, Religion relies on the fear of NOT believing.
Therefore, yes, weaker people prefer not to take chances just in case there is an after life. So they choose to believe.
In any case, that should not pose a problem in itself. There is space for everyone. The problem lies with people who insist that all are converted to their beliefs.
Go for the Shadow, silky smooth with original pipe but a real growler with after market twin pipes.
At the moment my second dream bike is my 1972 Honda 350 K2 that I am restoring. I have had it (it has been in storage all this time),for 21 years but now it looks like it should be ready for this summer.
I can speak my native tongue, English which is my second official language and Italian quite fluently. I can babble a bit in the Czech language but after 36 years it does not come easy.
A few words here and there, like French knickers, French fries, French mustard and French kiss do not entitle me to say that I can do French as well.
Just on an informative note, many, many natives can hardly put a few words together to form a decent sentence in Maltese. The main culprits are the media people, legal people and politicians. They are killing my language. To impress, they borrow foreign words mostly Italian and often out of context. They are terrible and I just hate them.
I do not have either the time or the inclination to read all the past posts, so I will push on to say my bit:
The Bible is a collection of literature handpicked as a means to an end. It should serve the purpose just as proverbs do.
As a very learned local priest once said: Religion should serve you like a step to reach a higher level. If religion does not do that, then it is not serving you well. Do I respect my parents or do unto others as I would that they do unto me because the bible says so? No, I do it because it makes sense to do so. Does it matter if it is "Joseph and his technicoloured coat or Dolly Parton's "The coat of many colours that my mama made for me" that teaches me something? All one has to do is "hear" and "listen", "look" and "see". Leave either one out and one is stuck in a mire of crap.
The problem with people quoting the bible Ad Nauseam is that they are like a union's official thumbing the pages Collective Agreement to check if a job should be done or not. Do it if it makes sense, otherwise you end up as a fanatic robot.
I started reading this thread and not really relating to it.
I have what very loosely, I would call intuition about people. Can't really name it or nail it but it is there. Many times I fight it because I do not want to become a fatalist, (and I am not one).
The thing is that it is not always about negative feelings. Sometimes it is also very positive. It is not always about people only; it is also about actions or happenings.
In any case, when I have negative feelings about someone that I care for, I end up cursing the thought I am going to be right. And it is very scary and isolating like you say.
In fact, your last two lines prompted me to write my bit as I could identify myself with what you wrote.
Don't try to suddenly stop smoking. Think about it long and hard. Draw up a list about why you wish to stop the filthy habit. Find out what triggers the urge to smoke, like drinking coffee or just getting in the car. Hype up yourself and then decide to do it. Change your habits like have a fruit juice instead of coffee. Take up an exercise routine like walking and lightweights. Check your list often and regularly.
Don't loose heart if you have an occasional smoke, just restart and keep up the good work.
As usual no two stories are the same. People who have made mistakes in their lives tend to shy away from telling everyone and his brother about their past. If pushed, they tend to either leave some bits out or actually lie about their lives.
I did that mistake of pushing and it nearly killed us. What really matters is the present and not the past.
My two bits worth of advice would be not to ask too many questions.
For the habitual liars, I agree, show them the door pronto.
Like the "Karate Kid" instructor said, "It is alright to walk on the right side of the road just as it is alright to walk on the left side of the road. But do not walk in the middle of the road."
Maybe not the exact words, but the gist is there.
Like Rivame and Jeepers wrote, he is on the re-bound. You do not need or want that.
RE: It`s been said quitting smoking is harder to quit than Heroin. Is this true or false?.
