Jihadmeathello: It has come apparent to me that people here are not used to dealing with trolls.
For those who do not know what a troll is, let me define it so you may draw a parallel to perhaps a poster or two.
Trolls will find an offensive or borderline offensive subject matter and use it to piss people off. 99% of the time they do not even believe what they are posting. They simply do it to have a laugh at your expense when you respond t them.
The trolls I have seen here are mild and not very creative or clever and are playing quite a number of people here like a virtuoso.
By giving the troll attention and debating with them, you are giving them the laugh they want. And it is YOU they are laughing at. You are not debating or proving any points by wasting your time and effort with a 4 paragraph response to the troll.Ignore them and they go away.
yes, so true.
there was someone who used to post stupid threads here, she really was the queen of stupid posts. she was also nasty and rude, people got tired of her and her posts. The last one she had, 4 hours had gone by and only 3 people had responded, so she disappeared. We haven't heard from her in over a month now. so if we ignore the troll who is interested in teenagers and 16 year old girls, he too will soon disappear, get together with the married woman in Australia who cheats on her husband likes having an affair with older men, thank you sir

The Five Stages of "Troll" posting.
First Stage: A good experienced Troller will start a thread topic with a relatively mild, but thought provoking topic based on real-life events that may be current or in the past.
Second Stage: After letting it sit for a while and after people have become engaged in the discussion they will make a statement that is guaranteed to get people aroused with their emotions.
Third Stage: The Troll having found there victims sensitive to a subject of discussion will subtly take a shift in position to lure the victims into a typothetical argument which purpose is to get them angry. It is during this stage that the Troll experiences their own arousal of heightened emotion as they think they are controlling the thread. Indeed, some Trolls are very good at getting a thread to rise and fall in tempo by altering their position to pacify the victims thereby getting the thread to last for a longer time then expected of them. Yet, it can be seen that the Troll is sometimes straining in thought in some of the posts to justify their position. Though they are the self-perceived "Masters of the world in their fingertips" and everyone else is not as good as them in their minds, the reality of the situation is it is hard to stimulate good positive results by using a low class of "personality" they posses.
Fourth Stage: After achieving success at getting people angry and voicing their valid opinions against a degenerative attitude the Troll will enjoy this time taking care of their own arousal. This stage is charectorized by the absence of the Troll on the thread as it is hard to type with one hand. However, some Trolls are very good at one-handed typing so it is hard to say what they are actually doing while participating in the thread.
Fifth Stage: This is the "Cigarette phase" of the Trolls existence in which the Troll has found meaning in life...again. It is during this stage that the Troll will come back into the thread to get off a few parting shots at the victims and usually by saying it's not worth their time to have an intelligent discussion with the victims. The real purpose of this is that they have to take time to clean their keyboard or they are so tired from their efforts that they need to sleep.
It should be noted that the experienced Trolls usually have a water-proof keyboard or a spare keyboard ready to change out so that can quickly resume the "pleasure" of online chatting. They will be back as fast as they can to start over at Stage One.
Holy crap!....after that analysis, are you sure you're not a troll yourself?
I've never jacked off while reading a thread, but I've almost thrown up a couple of times...

Here's my philosophy regarding trolls. Simple rules to follow.
1. If you find the topic interesting, participate.
2. If you don't find the topic interesting, don't participate.
3. Don't take the personal stuff seriously.
4. If they tee the ball up really high, go ahead and take a swing.
5. If you no longer find the troll amusing or entertaining, quit participating in the thread.
6. If the troll happens to be too stupid to be of any value then just ignore it. They'll either do better next time or go away and it doesn't matter which really because their drivel isn't your responsibility.

In my two and a half years here, that never happens. Some people here, have a really strong need to set a person straight when it's a controversial subject---which is perfectly fine since the cruel or dumb person does need to see criticism. Then of course, there are people who just call other people names since they OMG don't share the same views as them.
Add the fact that we get a lot of newcomers into this forum, and they many not be forum vets.
Also, it's really hard to not take things personal from what I've seen in my time here. One snide comment or personal attack really turns into a war where somebody is sent to detention or banned.
There are some friendly ongoing feuds here. Just have a look in the Obama threads

...but...
it will never happen on CS for 2 reasons -
(a) some people simply thrive on trolls, it{troll} gives them something to do with their time and adrenalin rush from quarreling and drama;
(b) new to internet people will always take a bait.
