I want to quit smoking, I really do but I don't want to gain weight, which since the metabolism changes when you do, will most likely happen. When I dumped my EX, I also dumped over 70 lbs and I don't want any of it back matter of fact I want to dump even more of it..I am in a new RS a LDR..we will meet for the 1 time in a few weeks and I'd like to be smoke free when we meet..but I am kinda scared to quit because of the possible weight gain...

so..any advise you guys..this is really driving me bonkers..blues

I have a friend who made the decision to quit (for health reasons) after many years of smoking, and she hasn't put on ANY weight. She is fastidious about exercising though, and generally watches what she eats. Don't even put that thought in your mind. You can lose the cigs and not put on weight. I did many years ago... Good luck. It is tough giving up that crutch, but if you are doing it for the right reasons, there's no reason you can't stop and EVERY reason to stop. hug peace

You could use patches to ease yourself off the nicotine. Worked for me and in conjuction with exercise, i didn't gain weight.

Giving them up is the best thing you can do. Good luck.

I have heard hyponotise works. And doctors actually do it as a deep meditation so you remember everything. Find one who records the sessions. Or if that freeks you out, you could try that 'Think quit' program it is based on the same ideals. My third labour was pain free due to hypnotism with a GP. And it can work with manny things as well as weight loss.

Hi, I quit smoking and lost weight, just don't replace smoking with eating or drinking and you should be fine, and quit with someone as this helped me, so go swimming or do some other exercise together to stop cravings!! Good Luck!!

I decided to quit, so I started a thread about it. Man ! I received support, tips and gained many friends through this. And, had I started back again, I would have had to tell the world that I am a failure.
Ask yourself, what would you prefer...gaining a few extra pounds, or not living your full, healthy life.
With all the extra energy you will have from stopping ( which comes on quickly after stopping )you will be able to burn of the extra weight with a little exercise.
Just try and see what happens.
Best of luck cheering cheering

I'm an ex-smoker.

Quitting can help you lose weight.

If you put the extra energy to use.

I'm not a doctor, but I believe that the connection between quitting smoke and weight gain is a myth.
If you gain weight it's because you change your eating habits, and not because you stop smoking.
dunno

Before using the patch, speak to your doctor first, especially if there is a history of heart disease

The most important thing you can do is not set yourself up for failure. Don't attempt to quit when you will be going through a stressful period (such as meeting a potential new love interest). And if your desire to quit stems from the future meeting, you most likely will not succeed. Trying to stop smoking for someone else rarely works.

as you are,
Tobacco is one of the hardest addictions to walk away from..
It was really hard for me, I did it, no other suppliments needed.

What ever works......
