starshinebright: Yes, I hope they all make it out too, it would be such a shame to lose any of them at this point............instead of fighting to be the 1st out........they fought on who would be last......all of them looking out for each other...........cheers to them all

There's a reason for wanting to be the last out.

Think about it?

DjWabbet: And he's out! The first miner has reached the surface, about 16 minutes after the ascent began.
Wearing dark glasses and a red mining helmet, Avalos hugged and kissed his wife and young son who were waiting anxiously for him.

He then greeted the president and other rescue workers.

Psychologists, Chile's health minister and doctors at the site say it will be a perilous journey for the miners.

Doctors say the miners could suffer nausea and heart palpitations and are concerned about the risk of blood clotting and heart attacks. Aspirin had been sent down to the men to thin their blood.
Miners monitored during ascent

The miners are closely monitored from the moment they are strapped in the capsule. They had been given a high-calorie liquid diet donated by NASA, designed to keep them from vomiting as the capsule rotates.
Rescue FAQs

Learn more about the rescue operation.

A video camera in the capsule is used to monitor for panic attacks. The miner uses an oxygen mask and has two-way voice communication.

They also wear sweaters because of the shift in climate from about 30 C underground to near freezing on the surface after nightfall. Those coming out during daylight hours will wear sunglasses.

After medical checks and visits with family members selected by the miners, the men will be flown to hospital in Copiapo, a 10-minute ride away. Two floors were prepared where the miners will receive physical and psychological exams and be kept under observation in a ward as dark as a movie theatre.

The last miner who will leave the mine has already been decided — shift foreman Luis Urzua, whose leadership was credited for helping the men endure 17 days with no outside contact after the collapse. The men made 48 hours worth of rations last before rescuers reached them with a narrow borehole to send down more food.

You bet!thumbs up Those guys had a leader down there and probably more. I'm sure it will all go fine and, am surprised that they wish to take the guys who have come up away from the scene as the bonding that went on below would not allow me to leave for a second. I'd want to stay until each guy came up.

That said, sure am glad the medic and rescue guys went down to ensure everybody was prepped as the ride up is one hell of rush and, internally dangerous. To keep the lid on for that length of time is something else.

Good going Chile! cheering

What looks weird to me is that they are forcing them to get on a stretcher and they get wheeled away as they arrive on the surface. Those 4 guys who have been rescued so far look a lot healthier and stronger that many of the old men, (polititians), who are greeting them on arrival. laugh

I don't have a TV. I'm relying on you lot.

And hope.
