First off, I put this in Misc not religious because not all of the above are religion based.

Now, the matter at hand grin

Just curious if anyone on CS has been involved with a cult, known someone who is/was, or has been involved with a commune, or know's anyone who was/is.

If so, toss out some of your experiences, opinions etc.

theres a group in my town...actualy their an international
group....a religious commune called the 12 tribes...they
do EVERYTHING...they have their own printers, food sulppliers,
construction...they have several resturants in the area....
the contractors do work in the area and its some of the finest available. Its entirely a self contained commnuity...anything
that is needed is provided within....they all seem very happy
with it.
Also.....they put out some of the BEST folk type music Ive
ever heard. Kinda a blend of bluegrass/hebrew/folk

Are you thinking of joining one Gib?

Seriously though I have no personal knowledge of such things. I think they are generally an American phenonema, why, I'm not sure.

And would that mean that all the female members are at your beck and call? Would you have like a hundred wives and a pack of children at your feet?

I'm really not looking for googles ... I'm genuinely more interested in people's opinions on this and it's effets on their lives/loved ones lives, than anything factual or the preachings of anyone.

Mind you, Im gonna do the google anyway grin

I was with the Moonies for a short time. I liked a lady there. I never shaved my head or carried flowers. My interest was like a mail order bride arrangement.

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I've already said I have no personal knowledge about cults. Actually though there is a difference between cults and communes isn't there? Anyway from what I've read about cults, they are usually started by a man and the women play a subservient role.

Communes however can be different, if you think about the Kibbutzes they were supposedly egalitarian.

Yes, a lot are centred on the main male figure. I should have included sects as well now that i think about it. It's my understanding that everyone is subservient to said leader though, not just women.

But I am no authority or even knowledgable in this area, so I'm asking the question grin
