Ya know, those guys with guns 'n camouflage kit....hairy chests and baseball caps. The kind of guys who kill animals. It must feel so cool to have a gun in your hand, and be able to decide wether some totally defenceless animal lives or dies....

I always turn down hunters, fishers and smokers. I'm a vegetarian. That's one of those things that makes a relationship go sour. How can you breed with a man who shoots Bamby's mother and keeps LIVE BAIT in the car.

I've only ever met one person, who went hunting on a regular basis. I was very taken aback by the idea, but I could never really discuss with him why he liked it so much, cos I worked for him.
Is there anyone here, who could enlighten me?? What is so good about it?? I really would like to know.
I think it's the primordial instinct to kill that seems natural to man, the ultimate predator. Also, men get turned on by guns, because as little boys they have been fed a continual diet of action super heroes, who are all into violence, killing and guns. It's also cool to be able to say to your mates at the bar that you killed some animal, and there was blood and guts and stuff. It's like...manly I guess. I know most young men are really impressed with army stuff, guns and all the kit. It's a game. And shooting things can be fun, cos it's a chase where something dies, but you never get hurt.

Hunting... well, there are a lot of cool things about it. First and foremost, we're part of nature. Hunters are active participants in nature and not observers. In life, everything we eat that has any nutritional value was once alive and, for the most part, in order to eat it, you've got to kill it.
Of course, if you're a vegetarian, then you can be against hunting without being a hypocrite but if you eat meat, then being against hunting is like paying a hitman to knock off your ex and railing against murder. If you eat meat, something's going to die and you're going to pay someone to do the dirty work for you. Unless you're a farmer or a hunter, in which case, you take the meat from the field to the table, tending to it throughout the entire process. It'll be fresher and more healthy to eat and you know exactly how it was handled.
If I don't eat it, I don't hunt it. I'll kill stuff I don't want to eat, but that's my prerogative. If there are mice in the house, I'll send them to mousy-heaven. If cockroaches find their way in the house, I'll have them on their back, legs wiggling in the air and not think anything of it. But I won't kill just because it's cool to kill. Killing isn't cool. It is, however, how meat is made. And I'm OK with that.

How right you are my liberal friend..!! It is why my choosen profession has been that of a COMBAT soldier... That way I get to kill and shoot humans.. speciallythe ones that cry, whine, and profess humanity yet are to cowardly to fight for it themselves.. ---SoldierByte--- P.S. and every now and then .... I will kill something I want to eat .. SB

gardenhackle: I love bowhunting and fishing.
There's plenty of room for all God's creatures. Right beside the mashed potatoes and gravy.
Well some animals have to be culled for their own survival, and ours, but killing for it's own sake is not good, my motto is if you can't eat it don't kill it.
As a rancher, I understand conservation of species and have set aside some pasture as wildlife habitat. As a result, we have some red tail hawks nesting in the platforms we made and set up. Doves like to hide in the tall grasses and we've seen some deer grazing amongst the cattle. :)
I've never gotten the whole hunting thing, either. I don't fish, hunt or smoke. My idea of hunting is following the wildlife at a safe distance with a camera and recording their habits to report to the local Department of Natural Resources.
When I was growing up, my father and grandfather were out one day on the ranch checking fences and repairing them. They came upon a mother pronghorn and her newborn fawn. The mother had died and the baby was getting into a bad way fast. My grandfather collected as much of the mother's milk as he could into a canteen and the men carried the fawn home to us. Oh the oohing and awwwing. My siblings and I bottle fed the fawn and he thrived, growing into a very handsome young buck. My dad and grandfather neutered the young buck because he was being a little too playful with those little horns and they hurt. We loved our pet and think he loved us as well.
Time passed and "Buck" was an adult before we knew it. He'd graze with the cattle and horses and would come into the barn at night to sleep. One day, he was out in the front pasture and mom took us to school. By the time she got back, someone had come by and shot "Buck". Even though he was wearing a neon orange blanket. Luckily, the shot only grazed him and he recovered. We kept him in the back pastures after that. Years passed and he eventually passed away to old age at 10. He was buried in a pretty corner with his own headstone saying, "Buck, Beloved Pet". I still think of him very fondly.

My motto, too. Except for roaches, ants and other vermin that make the mistake of invading my home. Otherwise, it's live and let live for me.
Having grown up in a family where camping, fishing, hunting etc. were regular activities I do not see it as a terrible thing. We ate the fish, deer etc. I personally have never hunted, but have fished and I've no issues with that. I guess it all depends on your experiences.
Now take me to a tribe wherein they eat small grubby worms etc. and I'll be grossed out. To them that's normal.

You go off the pill and screw your brains out. Next thing you know, you're barefoot and pregnant. No problem.
