Last night coming home I pass a cyclist taking their dog for a run.
Note: We are well within the official hours of Darkness when all vehicle lights must be on.

Things that were wrong.

No cycle helmet.
No Bike Lights.
No reflector.
Dog Choking itself on the lead as it strains to run faster than owner.

So I was wondering how do you stop and ask this young person if they realise what they are doing is wrong and against the law. That if the law came along they would be heavily fined?.
Is walking the dog this way worth that fine?.

Without being told to take my sticky beak and place it elsewhere.
(Note how very politely I phrased this last sentence. laugh)

I mean if they weren't aware they were doing wrong, then they deserve to be advised before being copped by a copper. Surely.

I suppose I should add it was a very low income neighbourhood i was passing through. That generally can't really afford fines.

Yeah, I dunno sigh Most times I find people don't appreciate being given "advice" in these situations, to put it mildly roll eyes

And I reckon they know damn well they're doing it wrong most of the time, they just don't give a crap conversing

The concern that I have mostly about this is for the dog. You often see this, dogs being made to run alongside bikes, and I wonder what the dog thinks about it. They can't exactly put their paw up and say "Hey, I've had enough and anyway, you're going to fast dickhead".

Had a situation recently at the local shops, a guy literally dragging a young pup along with a lead, the little thing was exhausted and everyone was turning and shaking their heads in disgust. He was a rough looking guy .. I couldn't just walk away and do nothing, so I asked two guys to come with me and approach him.

But within seconds he'd turned a corner and disappeared so I took off after him .. by then he was holding the puppy up in the air by the collar and shaking it crying I yelled at him to stop and went off my brain at him, a crowd gathered round, with silent support, but one woman was so upset by the event, she called the police who came after he'd left. Don't know if they found him, probably not.

That poor puppy often comes into my thoughts, I wonder what he has to put up with in his daily little life. crying blues

So, yeah, wellmeaningly we intervene in things that we know aren't right, but in the case I mention, it just upset me and probably made no difference, perhaps even made that lil dog's life worse, who knows moping

comfort hug I know Serene. Thats why i mentioned the Dog choking on its lead. Although that bit wasn't against the law it reflected poorly on the person as a dog owner.
Imagine if thats how they walked their kid. More people would be up in arms. The dog has rights. And there are expectations in society on how a dog is suppose to behave and be walked.

But thats just it, Its only someone else's expectation.

And as for OSH getting involved in things. If OSH got involved in Stupid ways to get an injury from walking a dog. Then there would be a law against it.

It just makes me ill to think about it sigh Half these numbnuts can't look after themselves, let alone another living creature .. when are regulations going to come in where they can't just take an animal home and treat it however they see fit blues

This is supposed to be an educated, forward-thinking society we live in conversing

I believe there are just not enough cyclist being run over each year? I am trying my hardest to cleanup the roads of these scum, but alas, my efforts have been inveigh

I saw a woman walking her dog last week when it was 37 deg, she turned on a tap in the park so the dog could have a drink? The dog was more interested in wetting its burning paws!
Some pet owners are just plain stupid! Unfit to have pets of any kind!

Lastly, we had a thing on the news tonight about indigenous prison numbers? And how they are talking about preventative alternatives to reduce the prison numbers?

How about just explaining that if you steal something you are going to jail!!! FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are not too many indigenous people in jail now that are not repeat offenders?

Time to takeoff the cotton wool! I say, and reduce the welfare payments of families that don’t sent their kids to school!

Sometimes common sense just isn’t that common?

doh

Hey Mate, thumbs up

The only thing I can see wrong with this story is that the rider was not carrying a can of beer, otherwise reads fine.......
