My first impressions have been ALL wrong lol. Still got my sense of humour and still bloody looking !! Still id rather be alone than pretend to be someone that i am not !
sometimes they count i think , but alot of the time i prefer to get to no people,first impressions can be totally wrong,normally little things start to show over time if someones being false they cant help it they forget themselves
Yep, 1st impressions do matter to me and I am one of those people that either like someone or dislike straight away, just my gut insticts and I am normally correct.
And not just on the dating scene but in normal life too, and haven proven this quite a few times.

I used to run with gut instincts, but I've proven myself wrong more than once

Most of the time i go by first impressions some times right and some wrong ..Within the first few minutes of meeting someone in person i evaluated them even if it’s just a glance. I observe there attire grooming posture body language facial expression and so on..It gives me a little bit of an insight of what kind of character they are... We all would like to think that we’re not quick to judge but the fact of the matter is that the entire rest of the interaction is framed by the context of that powerful first impression.

I think that you do form first impressions as soon as you meet someone, good or bad and you generally have a good idea if it is going to work or not. You both have to have that instant connection.

I agree with you and the only time the formula does not work is if you choose to ignore your gut feelings and then you generally find out the hard way

When it comes to men though, I generally throw caution to the winds and deal with the consequences later
No regrets on that front
I am rarely wrong in my first assessment of a person. I have an inner voice that says stay or run but i have rarely met someone i have not liked. As far as dating goes i wish that inner voice had done a bit more shouting though.

Even I live Daily life by first impressions.
I'm one of those dumb males that by a car by first impressions.
I chose a book by the cover, I choose takeaways by the smell that makes me salivate the most. (usually the chinese)
And I look at females on the street by the impression they give off walking along. I read an article only because of the piture or the headline.
About the only thing I don't do on first impressions is apply for a job or educate myself.
Males are scientifically proven to react to visual stimuli. Hence we will be more suspect to first impressions than a female.

Is this why Men Rule and Women Follow. Because we react faster than Woman and just grab things by the scruff of the neck and run with them; Whilst woman sit back and weigh the pros and Cons and then find the opportunity has passed them by?.

OK apolgise if inappropriate. Just that I was watching Robin Williams "Weapons of Mass Destruction" last night. And I was just thinking of segment he did on how man and woman were designed if they had been designed by committee.
Its the old job interview thing.... they say that you have about 5 seconds to make an impression good or bad!!!
With any first meeting be it dating, job, an introduction, the cops at your door .. thats all you've got 5 seconds, and its ALL in the eyes and facial expression.
If your smiling but your eyes arent smiling ... people can actually read that, even if the 'hidden' expression only lasts a microsecond.

'disgust and anger'.

why are you only asking the guys?
I have to agree with others and say that it is probably built into people to make an assessment of someone based on first impressions so maybe it is human nature (Do any other animal species do it?
)I think 95% of the time, my first impressions of people are right but I do try to give someone the benefit of the doubt and am open to be proved wrong because I am aware that sometimes things may be happening for people in their lives they are not dealing with well so they may not necessarily be giving out truly accurate vibes. A persons true nature will always come out in the end so usually its only a matter of biding your time if you are unsure of a person.
I tend to trust my gut instinct .. on a few rare occasions I have not listened for various reasons, but usually it is a conscious decision because I would like to be proven wrong (this particularly applies to men I am interested in because I WANT them to be good and honest and nice etc) but I soon find I should have listened to my gut instincts

Ah interesting, but very true, we cant pretend to be what we are not.......and my gosh we can't ever!!!! lose a sense of humour, that would be criminal...lol

Trouble is I have been accused in the past of 'not giving guys a chance' - so then I do, thinking my feelings might change, he might grow on me, I might get to like him.
It's then I realise I should have gone with my first instincts

we are all wrong now n again, and again,..!! lol, but true gut feelings and first impressions generally bear true, there is exceptions though.....what i found interesting is *tarnished by your emotions at the time* hmm, could also apply to tarnished by their emotions at the time...food for thought
