After years of debate, New Zealand has finally won the pavlova war.
The Oxford English Dictionary has put an end to the debate which has divided Australians and Kiwis for years, by attributing the delicious dessert to our little country.
The dictionary is in favour of our argument that the first recorded recipe was in 1927 in the book Davis Dainty Dishes.
It was originally named after the Russian ballet dancer Anna Pavlova and made in her honour around the time of one of her tours to Australia and New Zealand in the 1920s.
The Australians's argue the pavlova recipe was created by a chef at the Esplanade Hotel, Bert Sachse, in 1935.
