What is your favourite book? Who is the author?
Mine is "An Evil Cradling" by Brian Keenan, one of the Beirut hostages '85-'89.Shows how the human spirit can overcome even the most extreme conditions and adversity.

One book as a teenager I enjoyed reading very much was The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. There have been others as well, but that particular book stands out to me as one I definitely remember for opening my mind to a world beyond where I was at the time. I loved the concept of telepathy - it would be amazing to have that ability.

I'd have to say my own favourite is John Steinbeck's "Travels With Charley: In Search of America." Even fifty years on, it's astonishing how much of it remains true.

That book was one of three called The Barrytown Trilogy. The other two are called ' The Commitments' and the other is 'The Van'. All are a great laugh.
Have you ever read Iain Banks a Scottish writer. He also writes sci-fi books under the name of Iain W. Banks. 'The Wasp Factory ' is well worth a read with an interesting twist at the end. All his books are worth a read. I'm not into the sci-fi but the others are great.

i have more than one...

The Garden of The Finzi Continis for its nostalgic description of the world that has gone away

The Catch 22 for its perfect combination of a serious theme with the best humour

Alice in The Wonderland for its magic world

but...

probably i love the most Candide: or All For The Best by Voltaire

for its brilliant critic of the exagerated optimism...and i adore its saying: all is for the best in the best of all possible worlds that are the words pronounced by Candide every time when the most atrocious disasters happen to him....
